WendyMaq's Journal, 21 May 2020

I don't know what to do at this point. Spent the entire week experimenting to get to that magic carb.fat.protein ratio. I've tried new things. (added a cup of quinoa to dinner) I'm eating things I don't like because they're good for me. (added a cup of sweet potato to my breakfast) I've substituted. (mashed avocado for butter on toast) Still no movement on the scale. It's hard to hit the genopalate ratio, but I've done it. I've counted calories. (with the exception of Sunday's margaritas, all under 1500, mostly under 1200) I have even exercised!! ...and still ZERO movement on the scale!! SO FRUSTRATING!! Started bleeding again (day 3), but still feeling the breast tenderness and moodiness of PMS. I'm sure hormones must have something to do with it, but what the hell do I DO about it?!? They say stress causes weight gain? Well THIS is stressful! Calculating every bite... logging every detail... fluctuating hormones... I'm really, really, really struggling. If I'm fighting this hard to NOT GAIN, what the hell else to I do??!

Keep going. Your hormones will eventually balance out and the scales will follow. Try keeping to your logging and don’t weigh for a few days. Concentrate on how your clothes feel and drinking lots of water. You got this.

The best advice I can give is to not fast and make sure to have 3-4 meals a day. Your body is fighting hormone fluctuations so keep your metabplism steady throughout the day. Also.....whenever you eat carbs which tend to spike your blood sugar and energy ALWAYS have protein with that meal or snack. A veg or fruit salad should always have a protein with it. Pasta or rice should also have a protein. This was something I learned from my nutritionist that the protein will cancel out some of the carb spike and keep you satiated longer until the next meal or snack. Menopause for some women can go on for years so my suggestion would be to log daily or for as long as you gain the knowlwdge of calorie load. As for the scale.......stay off it and go by the fit of your clothes and a measuring tape. And get as much sleep as you can everyday. Best to you!!

The message in all that was in pre menopause or menopause you want to make sure to stabilize your metabolism and glucose levels throughout the day. Your body is going through a hormone transition so keep everything else stable and consistent. Hope that makes some sense....

I think it is a lot to struggle to keep a certain nutrient balance and a certain calorie count at the same time. Not sure that you have to. Just eat food and measure them. Eat things that you like and are healthy at the same time. Try to get some exercise. This time is stressful. And the scale will go up and down as hormones happens. But in the long term it will work out fine.

I feel your hormone struggle, girl! I have PCOS and hypothyroidism. Look into adding some herbal supplements, my favorites are Ashwaghanda and Rhodiola. They help correct hormones and cortisol levels in the body. Worth a try as they're inexpensive, works for some and not for others. Please keep your metabolism going, don't cut calories too much! Watch liquid calories 👀💃Focus on movement throughout the day as opposed to actual exercises so it doesn't stress your body too much, then you can eventually ease in to some small 20-30 minute things without causing a crazy cortisol spike. Be blessed and keep going 💪 you got this!

While I was trying to lose weight, the scale was stubborn like yours. Now that I want to stay the same and not lose or gain my weight is up and down.

Yes it's tough, going through it myself. I heard that eating 500 calories less a day leads to a 1lb loss a week; which is a good rate. Slow and steady keeps it off as it allows your body to reset, rather than fight. Try taking 400mg of Magnesium a day, every day. You should notice a small improvement in a few days and a distinct improvement by next month. It takes time to build up to a proper level in the body. Had a friend with really bad cramps and she came in to work and gave me a big hug because it also worked on her really bad PMS too. Exercise does help too; I find it helps to dampen stress/restless hunger. Try doing 5-10 min exercise before you eat to rev the metabolism. They say that not exercising is as bad as eating a Big Mac. Keep at it; it's worth it.

Check out Jordan Syatt @ syattfitness.com he talks about this all the time and has tons of free content to help people feeling discouraged and stuck. Don't give up and don't go for a quick fix that won't be something you can maintain in the long term. He also talks about dieting truths and myths and feels strongly that you should be able to eat what you love (within reason) in order to make weight loss and your overall health (mental and physical) sustainable. He's got a great Instagram page with even more content than his website. Hang in there! You can do this :-)

When I first started out I did not loose a single OZ, for 2 months straight and I followed everything, to a T. But you have to see if you having a NSV, my clothes were getting loose, so I knew something was going on, after 2 months the scale started moving down, sometimes it is not always about the scale, I still call mine LIL LIAR hang in there and keep experimenting to see what works best for you and something you can live with !!!

Count your calories accurately. Weigh and measure EVERYTHING. One day can ruin your whole week of being in a deficit. My period causes a gain of 3-4 pounds every month and leaves just as quickly as it comes on.

skip the scale and try a tape measure. you might be shrinking in the ways that count. also, your body may be using this time to repair the inside of your body and not shedding lbs.
