I am borderline diabetic and really need help. I have 90 days to correct or my Dr. is putting me on medication. I know I can do this. I am 63 and have never dieted in my life. I stopped smoking 08-01-2012 and I think if I can stop smoking after 50 some years, I can conquer this too. Prayer and will power with your help.. Thanks

If any diet can help you it's atkins. Just be careful with the SF treats they can sabatoge you! Best of luck! Try to stick to real food not packaged stuff, also don't skimp on the fats you won't always eat so much but if your hungry at the begining then eat! But eat meat, or eggs, or something with plenty of fat. At the begining I could sit down with an 8oz steak and still be hungry but I don't really do that anymore. I have noticed my portions are way smaller and sometimes I can't finish. I finally have a "I'm full" respose and I have never had that in my life. You can do this!

Yes, you can most definitely do this! Melikaff posted some great advice for you! I'd also like to add, drink lots of water and use most of your carbs for eating vegetables (green, leafy ones preferrably). They do have some carbs, but are great fiber and have very few calories. Meat, on the other hand, is higher in calories but has zero carbs (as long as it's not processed/packaged meat). So the combination of the two equal out really well. You should never be hungry when eating the low-carb way. If you have any questions or need help or support, let me know. I'll be more than happy to help you :)

The 2010 book, A New Atkins for a New You, should explain everything. It's available in most bookstores (places like Wal-Mart and Sam's also carried it when it first came out) or can be ordered online. If you prefer, you can also go over to the Atkins.com website and get registered there....I think they are still sending out a small package of basic info just for registering. But even if they aren't, the site has tutorials that take you through the basics of each stage of the program and I highly recommend you go through the one on Induction, the first stage. It will answer a lot of your questions and help you through selecting the foods to make up your meals. You've received good advice, above. Good luck!
