What does coffee do to you?

There's a lot of debate on it, actually, because it interacts in a lot of different ways. It supposedly enhances the action of glucagon and adrenaline, which can help spike your blood sugar, so that you get a surge of insulin in response, to take that sugar out... which it does by shoving it into cells. Caffeine is also linked to insulin resistance, but I don't think that's an issue for me. I really don't care for decaf, blah. Still, the literature is mixed on whether it's actually significant enough in most people. As far as water itself goes, if you don't drink too much (5-6 cups a day) it doesn't really act as a diuretic, but then again, I tend to drink more like 12+ cups a day when I drink it, heh. So maybe I just cut back and spread it out more to minimize any possible effects, stick to half a pot or less a day spread across the day, and stop worrying about it.

Hmmm interesting. So you drink 12+ cups of coffee or water a day?

I am wracking my brain trying to figure out what the dreaded "P" word is...

"plateau" :)

My liquid intake varies a lot, but on days I make coffee I make either 1 or 2 pots of 12 cups, so I do somewhere between 12 and 24 cups on those days. I probably should look into one of those smaller coffee makers, I guess. Water, not so much, if I'm not doing diet cherry coke, I'm doing tea, either instant or lipton citrus green tea teabags mostly.

There's something to be said for drinking plain old water. I know it's not the most fun thing to drink but maybe try it for awhile to see if it helps. Low carb diets are really tough on the kidneys no matter what, but if you are always getting your hydration from sources other than water, I have to think that it would tax the system even more. I don't have sources to cite to back that up but it makes sense to me. "Plateau"... of course.

As Eringiffin knows I have now made coffe my reward for getting to a goal. I love it!! Seems like if you take out some of your coffe and added water it would flush you out more and help with the dreaded "P". (I had the P!!) Or it could be that I am just jealous that you are drinking so much of it while I sit on my "P" and pine for mine.
