dcgarage's Journal, 18 July 2012

Well, the weight is back up some after the last few weeks. It has been a rough few weeks. The big June 29th storm left me without power and water for nearly 2 weeks. Not being able to cook and clean dishes enabled me to justify eating out more (and making bad choices). The lack of the ability to cool down in the A/C and shower regularly enabled me to justify NOT working out, or working much at all for that matter. Hopefully I have curbed my 3 week binge. I find comfort in the fact that I can go off my "diet" for a few weeks, but then step on the scale and get right back on track (and on the track, literally). I have learned that the scale is my friend as well as my enemy. When I am "dieting", I step on it religiously, sometimes twice a day, to monitor my progress (when I am making progress). When I am not eating like I should and take a few days off, I absolutely HATE the scale. I HATE seeing a higher number. But after a few days I force myself to get on it, look at the number, and adjust my habits accordingly. The scale is a curse and a blessing. It is easy to ignore weight gain if I avoid the scale, that is a problem I learned the hard way in my past. I vow to face the scale, good or bad, and force it to keep me accountable for bad decisions.

Saying that....I am very happy with where I am in my life. Many people would hate themselves for being as big as me, but I am happy because I know how sad and "fat" I felt a hundred pounds ago. With the support and motivation I gather from Fatsecret, tracking my food intake, and using the scale as my friend and enemy, I shall be successful with my "lifestyle".
