cmj29's Journal, 22 February 2024

Hi FS family, last week I had hip replacement surgery. Everything went well, my doctor and his team at NYU ,NY were excellent. I have good days and bad days, got rid of oxycodone second day and stool softener, they were making me nauseous and dehydrated. I'm taking Pantoprazole and Meloxicam of course aspirin. PT comes three times week and exercises 3 times a day, also up and down stairs. Recovery is going well, what isn't going good is me sitting on my couch thinking 🤔 about food all day, can't work out like I'm used to. I know I try to eat salads and fruits but any suggestions on what I can do until I get back to my normal routine?

Healing thoughts and prayers for recovery!

Keep in mind that an artificial hip requires weight to be on the healthy side. because of my weight, I was not a candidate for joint replacement and now because of other health problems, I am no longer a candidate. My suggestion would be to weigh and measure everything you eat and make sure you fill in your food log. I keeps us honest.

Glad to hear recovery progressing. Find things to keep your mind and hands busy, puzzles, needlework, search puzzles, coloring etc. Busy stuff works best.

Just curious, what led to the hip replacement?

For my dad it was no cartlidge in his hip ball joint/ arthritis.

@mistybenner ,I slipped on a rug years ago and fractured my hip. Putting up with the pain day to day it got worse, resulting in needing a new hip.

I hope you feel a little better. It is hard sticking on a diet plan when you cannot move. I suggest to introduce some good fat in your diet and less or no sugar at all. Sugar make you hungry more and more. Try good fat like avocado, coconut oil, nuts. Use a little more fat and less carbs. It keep you without be hungry all the time.

Do as the PT suggest: don’t overdo it, and don’t quit.

Great news about the hip replacement; glad recovery is going well. Activities that keep your hands busy and distract you help. Have you ever tried adult coloring books? Something I enjoy.
