My hubby and I used to eat it every day. I couldn't continue with it. He is but he doesn't like it at all.

I try to have oatmeal twice a week, but it usually ends up every other week. I think Cheerios might be good idea. It has the insoluble fiber.

Morticia why couldn’t you continue? I actually do like it but i think swapping out the protein for the carbs trying to see how it affects my cholesterol numbers in 3 months may be a fail if i keep gaining weight.

Fritzy you mean cheerios for the experiment to see if it lowers cholesterol on next labs?

I like some dry cereals and miss them. Cheerios and also Crackling Oat Bran, which taste like little oatmeal cookies. I just have to be careful of portions

Several years ago, I stopped eating eggs and had oatmeal for breakfast for a month. It didn't change my cholesterol numbers one point. Since then, studies have proven that your cholesterol is produced by your body, not what you eat. As long as you don't have plaque build up in your arteries and veins, don't worry about it. I have high numbers, I'm 70, and my arteries and veins are clear, according to heart and carotid echograms. My BP is low. My doctor still insists that I take a statin. I decline, based on my clear arteries/veins. At my age, I could die from any number of reasons not related to cholesterol.

I made a baked banana nut oatmeal and was truly shocked how many calories it had. No flour, no sugar except 1 TBS of real maple syrup. 810 calories for 1 large muffin worth.

I understand...too much oatmeal isn't my thing...be careful of cereal. it has something like 45+ carbs. Usually lots of sugar too. PS..no bikini shots yet...🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

I gave up oatmeal because it’s spikes my blood sugar too much. I suppose it depends on if it’s instant or not or how much is eaten in one serving. I do eat carbs, just not oatmeal. I try and keep carbs at an average of 100g daily. No more than 140g daily due to my type 2 diabetes.

Oh no! Oatmeal does the same to me but probably moreso since I like to double a serving size and add more stuff to it 😳 If it’s plain, it just isn’t satisfying.

i eat high protein oatmeal

I add 1/2 banana 1/2 Orgain protein powder and 1 teaspoon honey to my oatmeal and its only 1/2 cup dry oatmeal. Im fitting it within my caloric range for the day so im guessing im just not processing carbs as well as protein.

Fritzy i like grape nuts but such high carbs for 1/2 cup. Remember being a kid and eating whatever you wanted because there were no video games, nor constant tv, ear buds, cell phones etc to stop a kid from being active. I spent all my time outdoors like it or not. My mom would say go out and play come back at lunch time or dinner time. Sigh. If i did that now i could definitely eat more. Could you imagine roaming the neighborhood with no cell phone no ear buds for hours and hours or riding a bike for all that time. My tushy would hurt these days.

Jdode you are only 10 years ahead of me we could ALL die from any number of reasons😂 not related to cholesterol. Im guessing it wont matter based on my doc visit but im curious. She’s been wrong before.

Trachel what other ingredients are in there? What size are they? That’s ridiculous. I make an oatmeal bar that is just oatmeal 2 cups ground up 1 cup not and 2 apples sliced and one banana sliced and 1/4 cup maple syrup baked into 6x6 or 8x8 baking dish makes 12 servings and is 115 calories each. Go to a nutritional calculator and see where your calories are coming from.

Diana-you are making me think of that beach boys sun (California where the girls are all so tan)😂. Go go go get a bikini and take the shot darlin💕. The oatmeal is carb heavy. If i keep gaining weight over next few days i will swap it for broccoli. Im just curious if 90 days of concentrating on higher fiber will make a difference at all on LDL and total. I also happen to like oatmeal so there’s that.

Storms my carbs have definitely gone up with the oatmeal experiment. Im fortunate i was able to reverse my pre-diabetic situation before it became full fledged diabetes.. little tougher road for you to be cautious with. I dont think i ever get over 140 grams myself tho. My body is just touchy. The adrenal gland failure screws up my metabolism. Should have asked if it is affected by the nutritional composition of the food i ingest.

Moko-i dont double the serving size. Just 1/2 cup dry before cooking and only adding 1/2 banana and 1/2 scoop protein powder and 1 tsp honey. I do like the way it tastes that way tho.

My husband cooks half a cup dry and we split it (so the serving for each of us is 1/4 cup dry). With walnuts, berries, flaxseed, yogurt and a bit of maple syrup, it’s still satisfying and filling. You may want to check if a smaller serving of oatmeal works for you, especially with all the add-ons. We have moved on to other kinds of flakes, like rye, spelt, barley, etc which we cook for a few minutes in an excess of water and drain (like pasta) but we still stick to the 1/4 cup dry per person limit. It comes to about half cup cooked.
