Yearofhealth2023's Journal, 23 August 2023

So first weight since left for surgery July 23rd. I know part of it is swelling that will still take several months to go down (up to a year) but majority should go down in 3-4 months. Don’t think it accounts for very much of the weight gain but for sure a small amount. Got in from our flight early and home at 11 and i usually weigh heavier for a day after flying. Soooo now that i have all my excuses out of the way the truth of the matter is that i upped my caloric intake an average of 500-700 calories a day in efforts of hitting protein goals. Doc wants two more weeks of 120 grams a day (which is still a struggle for me) and then i can drop down to 70-100. Ordered compression garment that is super high waist to below knees to be worn 24/7 for the most part for next few months. I tried the full body one and hated it so thats going to be a challenge. Went on my first actual legit walk today with hubs and furry boys and did about 2 miles. Started limping at about 1 mile but I hadn’t taken any Tylenol or gabapentin for it. Apparently there are internal stitches there that are most likely the culprit or nerve regeneration. Time to get back on track. Am cleared to start working out lightly in six more weeks and fully in 8 weeks. Can only lift 10 pounds for the time being and must be cautious with brand new arms. Think i noted all for when i look back on this time. Whew.

Welcome back home! Glad to hear you made it safely. Only two more weeks of 120g Protein. You’ve got this! Look how much easier it will be when you can go down to “only” 70-100 grams a day! Great job on walking/limping 2 miles today! Listen to your body. If it says, “too much,” back down some. You’ll still on be back up to where you were before surgery. That time just isn’t quite yet. Which was happier - your furry boys seeing you or you seeing them? Remember, either one of them probably weighs over 10 pounds. You can do lots of lovin and snuggling - just not lifting for now. To every thing there is a season. You’ll have everything you have been looking forward to in due time. You’ve been patient for SO long already, but this last stretch is probably the worst of all. Hang in there. Be patient. Be reasonable. Listen to your body. Don’t want to UNDO any of what you’ve already accomplished! Baby steps. Give yourself a chance to fully heal before embarking on physical therapy (restricted or otherwise) then determine whether i need 2 or 3 treatments a week. I’ve slipped from where I was last week. Hope I Han get right back on plan! Happy you’re home with your a whole family !noethanks for updating us. More please?

Debbie you are such a mommy🥰. I know i know you sound like hubs but it felt so good to be back outside in my own environment with all the boys i love so much (all 3 of them). Im not sure who was happier, they were shocked and wiggly and my little guy was all over me. Weirdest thing hes been trying to lick me constantly. Hubs thinks he knows im injured. So strange. Big dude is where he always is right now cuddled up next to me. We took a nap together with his head resting on mine a bit ago (we were laying down). (Big dog not hubs). How is your recovery going? How is the water intake? How is the protein intake? Put down the soda love pick up the water. We are in this together my friend.

Janiesaisquois thats the tune of the day!! Thank you so much i was so filled with love for them last night i stayed up for probably 2 hours just petting them and hugging them. They are used to me playing with them and my little guy is used to me chasing him (we play keep away) but they seemed to understand I wasn’t fully myself. . They were so affectionate and talkative🥰. Sigh. I so love them.

Wifey my love seriously made your day? That is the sweetest thing!!! How’s your recovery going? You and i and Debbie are all recovering from the same week of surgeries. This past 30 days went by so slow and were so painful i cannot believe im actually home now. Found out yesterday they sent me home with the nurse with a pulse, cardio, oxygen something or other monitor because they were so worried about me being stable as took 3.5 hours to wake from anesthesia. I have zero recollection. I asked hubs why didnt they admit me or keep me if they were so worried. That’s kind of scary. He said he didnt know but he didnt sleep that entire next 12 hours. Poor guy. Surgery was at 7:30 am he went back to surgical center at 4:30 pm and waited thinking would be soon and i didnt get awake enough till 10:45 for them to release me and then he stays awake the entire night as he was scared for me. Guess he loves me😂. Thank goodness i dont remember. Im so glad you’re happy!!!!! Im happy too!!!!!!!

So glad you're able to be back in your comfort zone. Now the real healing kicks in! There's no place like HOME, especially if there's fur babies!

Slyone-thats the truth! I have spent all day with them and i always knew i loved them i just didnt know I NEEDED them. Which is funny seeing as how my big white boy was my constant companion during total hip replacement a year ago and they were both my therapists working with me to learn to walk again. I had to stand fully upright and lean back slightly to offset the pulling my little guy does and my big guy kept me stable. And here we are again…you are right tho. It’s like being in OZ i need red ruby slippers to take with me next time i do something that takes me away from home for so long.

Yes my darling, made my day. I’m serious. Your suffering was beyond normal. But some do react to anesthetic like that. Just put it all behind you sweetie and let the past 4 weeks be a memory only. You will do much better at home as we all recover much faster in our own environments. Bless that guy of yours. He is a gem. I’m m sure every day will be better and better. I haven’t read the comments but I’m curious, did your doggies kiss you head to toe when they saw you??? I’m sure you were happy to see them. Take good care and take it easy too. I’ll forever remember you cause we share the same surgery date. Love you!! 💝💝💝💝💝

Wifey—-they were so wiggly and so shocked that it was us who walked thru the door. They have had the VERY EXPENSIVE (for whatever rude guy that was that said i was trying to cheap out by getting two for one) puppy sitter, her unexpected and unwelcome and finally had to be addressed boyfriend and then our sweet neighbors looking after them as well as another neighbor who walked them a couple times. We were the last folks they expected to see and their excitement was overwhelming and reciprocal. Dogs absolutely form family relationships. Lots of animals do. Humans aren’t special😂. I am so happy to see them i cant stand it!!! Xoxoxo

Shanekwa-thank you. I started writing in this journal after months of just inputting food and weight. I did it to keep myself and hold myself accountable for what i allowed to happen to me. The fact that anyone, even a single person, gets some value or some help out of it is such a gift to me. I truly hope that my journey is able to change the course of at least one person who is trying to self sabotage and slide down the food addiction non self-care chute that i have lived in off and on for parts of my life. Im trying to take good care of myself. I really am! You do the same sweetheart.
