JanieSaisQuoi's Journal, 02 August 2023

Hey y'all, I'm back for my first Wednesday weigh-in since July 5th. I am finally home from exciting adventures! I am honestly surprised that I didn't gain more than I did.
I booked my flight from RDU instead of CLT and spent a few days with my daughter, son in law, and 7-year-old granddaughter before leaving on an overnight flight to LHR on July 9th. The main reason for my trip was to sing with my choir at Ely Cathedral, Cambridgeshire, as part of the choir in residency July 17th - 23rd but I left early to spend 4 nights in Wells, Somerset because our high school choir was doing a residency at Wells Cathedral July 10th - 16th. I had sung at Wells for a week in 2011 and loved the city so much I went back there on my own in 2012 for a vacation. I was able to hear the kids sing choral evensong three times. I left there on the 14th and spent the night in London near Paddington Station where I hopped on the Heathrow Express train the next morning to LHR to meet my group and our tour bus to go to Ely. We spent Sunday in London and after attending Sunday services at Saint Paul's Cathedral the tour bus dropped us in Westminster to explore on our own. After we had lunch, I went with some of our group and toured Winston Churchill's War Rooms then went to Covent Gardens. Monday, we had guided tours of Ely Cathedral. Tuesday, we had guided tours of the city of Ely. On Wednesday we had a morning excursion to Sandringham House. There was an exhibit in the ballroom there of King Charles' watercolors, my favorite part, and the tiny church on the estate where the royal family attends services on Christmas Day. On Thursdays there is no sung evensong in the cathedral, so we had a full day excursion to the town of Stamford which has the largest concentration of medieval churches in the UK. From there we went to the Elizabethan Burghley House built by William Cecil. Of course, every day except Thursday we rehearsed, then sang Choral Evensong at 5:30. Sunday, we sang for Sunday Eucharist at 10:30 and Evensong at 4:00. Monday morning, we boarded the bus and departed for the airport at 4:00 am! I spent last week playing with my granddaughter and came home after dropping her off for her first day of second grade.
Photos are Sandringham House and Chapel, London, Ely Cathedral, Vicar's Close in Wells (believed to be the only complete medieval street left in England), and a bedroom in Burghley House.

Thank you, sk; it was! Now to get the weight back off. I thought about you when I ate some perfectly cooked medium rare lamb chops in London at a Lebanese restaurant; I think it was my favorite meal of my trip although the duck confit served on a bed of spinach, baby potatoes and mushrooms I had in Ely was up there, too. I look forward to seeing your meals again. 😋

Wonderful trip, thanks for posting the pictures. So glad you were able to go, and enjoy it. The extra weight was worth it, but it usually comes off slower than it goes on. For me, much much slower.
