Greetings my Buddies!

It has been an interesting and pleasant weekend - eating higher carb and some wine though...probably will not bode well for the "Idiot Box" later.

My BIG THING this weekend was coming to really understand about MODERATION and PORTION CONTROL.

Life will go on and there will be times when I will be eating on the fly - we just have to learn how to make good choices and limit ourselves to 'just a taste or one bite' at times.

We went to an outdoor Blues music festival all day yesterday with friends. It was fun to be outside, and people watch. They wanted to go to dinner out so we did. I did pretty well - but it was still hard to not overindulge.

WHAT tips do YOU have that help you moderate and have portion control? I would love to know what works for all of you.

And, my new words of the week!

Words of the Week:
"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop."

I am dedicated, determined and diligent.

I actually took the advice that someone on here gave me. While on vacation we went to IHOP. I ordered an omelet and fruit. Once I saw that omelet I said no way and asked for a to go box before she even finished placing all the plates down. I cut it in half put the other half in the box and thought, hey one if my buddies made this suggestion!! So proud of myself that I didn't overindulge 😀

woot woOT!! Farrlle. Great plan!! I find since I've been measuring and following my plan, I simply cannot eat those huge restaurant portions. If I do overdo I pay for it by not feeling good at all. I haven't asked for a go box to begin with but eat a reasonable portion and put the rest in a go container.

ditto Wholefoodnut. Cut my portions in half and ask for a "to go" container for the remaining half. Stop eating, Cover food with napkin, and push plate slightly away when I start feeling "politely" full. Eat my favorite foods first. Sip between bites. Put down my fork a lot. Focus on the people/conversaation, not the food. If having salad, ask for dressing on the side and apply myself - sparingingly. Standard practise now. It's all what I've learned through Weigh Down.

I weight all my foods and if for some reason that not possible I use a toddler plate that breaks foods into three sections. Hope that helps

Date night with my wife each week usually means eating out. I try to plan ahead for it and eat light before so calories are set aside for it, get dressing on the side if there's a salad, order veggies for a side instead of potato or starches, stay away from pastas and go with protein. If nutrition info. is available for the restaurant I'll try to scope that out ahead of time. Then there are those times that call for not worrying too much and enjoying the time out. If all else fails, just adjust afterwards and deal with it....one day or evening of excess doesn't derail you if you go right back to doing what you need to do.

A lot of restaurants have nutritional info on their website. I use it if I know we are going to be eating out.

The chains have nutrition info, I'm not big on chains. Too much comes in frozen or canned ready to be heated up and mostly all tastes the same. Privately owned restaurants usually do not have the nutrition info available and you have to estimate.

HCB what your talking about is what I call eating in the real world we all don't always have time to make the perfect meal selection or prepare something to take. So when you go to a restaurant you can always ask for a togo box right after they bring your meal and split it in half because you know everybody has huge portions, I will normally get water and after every bite have a drink it makes you feel fuller faster. Just be you and trust yourself.
