blurose411's Journal, 01 March 2015

Yesterday was my "cheat" day and boy when I do it I do it right. I went way over cals and carbs, but this is a no guilt zone so I don't feel any. I really enjoyed a day in the city with my hubby and eating foods I haven't had in soooo long. I know I haven't been on the low carb diet long so you are probably wondering what I could feel so deprived of. Well, we live in a small, rural town but today traveled 2.5 hours to our home town. It has been over a year since we have been home and we hit some restaurants we haven't even had the option of since moving here 3 years ago. We had the philosopher's pie at the Mellow Mushroom for lunch accompanied with a SweetWater 420. Then for dinner we had Krystal's. The Krystal's did seem to triggered some addition like behaviors in me as I ate twice as many krystals as I normally do. But it all tasted soo good and was so worth it. Tomorrow is back to the straight and narrow. I hope everyone enjoyed their Saturday as much as I enjoyed mine.

I understand the "going to the city" idea. I also live in a teeny, tiny rural town and sometimes I like the fact that temptation is not on every corner; but on the other hand, a fine selection of fresh produce can't be found at home either. I have avoided going to town as I don't want to be lured into eating something just because I don't get it at home. DH has been hinting that he would like to go to town to pick up a few things and I know that he is missing eating out. When I go, I will be like you....taste those things that I miss and know that when we head out of town that I won't be tempted once we get home. But we will stop at some large grocery store so that I can pick up some fresh produce. Glad that you enjoyed your day.

Gwen, I hope you will enjoy your day in town as well as I did. I will admit though, I didn't just taste things I pigged out. For me, however, it was something I decided to do before we even left the house. So I feel like I was still in control and conscience of what I was eating. I plan to have these cheat days usually about 2 times a month. most will be at home so most won't be so bad.

I hear you....I go to town once a month to get my hair "shaded" and try to sneak in and out without going by too many temptations. DH and I usually make a trip once a month to stock up and to eat out. My DH doesn't have any weight issues so I feel that once in awhile I need to give in to his desires to eat at some of his favorite restaurants. He is good about eating at home the rest of the time and when we do go out he will ask, "Is this someplace that you can eat?" Bless his heart....

I never get to 'town' either. We don't have much there though....nothing I really look forward to. That would be a longer trip than I get these days. But the produce and selection of farms is amazing. We can pick berries five minutes from here or help milk a cow and see a maple sugar house.

I grew up in the midwest on a farm (had berries, fresh milk and even a maple syrup camp) so I hear you Nicholaix and am envious....but living in the desert of West Texas doesn't provide any berry picking or even a farm stand. The dust blows and blows and only the cotton will grow! Wish I would have thought more about the line, "whither thou goest..."when I married my DH. (LOL) West Texas is beautiful for many special reasons but not for growing gardens. You are blessed indeed.

Wow, nicholaix that sounds neat. We have enough going on in our own yard that come harvest time we are to sore and tired to go harvest anywhere else; but having more variety would be great. I'm scaling back my own garden this year so maybe I can find some you pick its close be me to make up the difference this summer.

LindaLee, I was born and raised in a small city; I've never been to a big city. We have been living in a small town (about 500 strong) for the last three years and for the most part love it. There is a lot about the city I don't miss but there are things I do miss. I miss the restaurants and the shops but don't miss the crime, pace, traffic, or pollution. After an hour in the city my sinuses were going hay wire. I would prefer a small town about 60 miles outside a small city so I could have the best of both worlds.

I know about the triggers. It seems like when I eat carbs or sweets, I over do it. But it happens, so back on the wagon. lol

I admire your strength - if I have a "cheat" day, it could set me off on a "cheat week" !

I don't do cheat days, just lil cheat snacks here and there... I find I have much more control that way. So even if I do eat something junky, say, today, at least I will have otherwise eaten healthily.

Dreamcatcher, that does sound like a dream. I think for me, though, it would be too much. I like my small garden but it can feel like a burden sometimes. Plus, I do miss the entertainment of the city, not so much the in and out burger joints as LindaLee called them. Getting back on track hasn't really been that hard; HCB; even though I did go over again today but for a different reason. I think I will start doing like Somebody Else said and just make it one treat. Eating the right foods wouldn't have been any problem except that my sugar dropped while I was on the road to pick up the kids. I've had low blood sugar for almost 16 years now but I haven't had any episodes since I've been on the low carb diet; until today. I have no doubt that it was because I went so far over yesterday. I stopped at a gas station and got the healthiest thing I could find to get my sugar up, which was a banana. Obviously, that banana put me over my carbs again once dinner was factored in. But, hey, this is a learning experience right. Before now it would have been a soda, but it wasn't even a thought so I must be doing something right. So I learned that, that many of those kind of carbs will have me feeling like crap the next day. IDK, I'll just keep trail and erroring my way through this till I get it all figured out. Thanks for all of you're support and that chat. Happy journey everyone.
