Okay, I just stood over the stove and inhaled a portion of pasta (that I had made for my daughter) directly from the pot. Why bother with a plate? Or, for that matter, a fork -- a huge wooden spoon will do just fine. And now I have the disturbing feeling that I didn't eat lunch. I really need to sit down and make a production of eating... otherwise I can easily convince myself that I skipped lunch and just had a "snack" instead.
Lesson 1: Don't cook child's lunch while STARVING.
Lesson 2: If Lesson 1 fails, at least pull a chair up to the stove and have a seat.

tomorrow is another day. Start it like your fist day of dieting. (but don't continue to cheat today because of this one slip)

Your experience is interesting, because I've done the same thing, and isn't it funny how you don't feel as though you've eaten, because it wasn't EMOTIONALLY satisfying? I think you're onto something when you say next time you'll at least get a chair... Make a production out of each meal. It's an indication that we don't feel worthy of being "made over" when we neglect our emotional needs. The truth of the matter is, we ARE worth it.
