Selbygirl6's Journal, 30 October 2017

Happy Monday, everyone. It's cloudy here today in Phoenix, which is always a welcome change. I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary with FS and Bright Line Eating. I did lose 50 lbs in this past year. It actually took 6 months and I have kept it off the past 6 months. I'm taking some of the good things I learned from Bright Line Eating and moving forward to a life that is "Free" from obsession over food, my weight, calories, fat, etc. That is my real goal: to be a "normal" eater. I haven't been one my whole life so this is an interesting quest. I would like to be a normal, healthy weight (whatever that is). I "think" I'd like to lose another 50 lbs. That may not be a natural, healthy weight for me. I do know that it's been about 10 years since I was in the 170's and I liked it there. So I changed my goal to 168. Once I get there it'll be a matter of taking it as it comes. Meanwhile, I'm still trying to recover some of the things I lost from doing the BLE bootcamp-things like energy, freedom from cravings, obsession with food, actual weight loss. I've been reading up on the effects of doing calorie restricted dieting on the brain and body. SO far, the news isn't sounding good. Like this piece from the F.E.A.S.T. page:

"When starving, the hypothalamus turns up hunger so we can think of little but food; it keeps satiety (fullness) signals low so that when food becomes available we can gorge, and it quiets the part of the brain responsible for self-restraint. One study published this fall in the New England Journal of Medicine found that hunger signals were still significantly elevated a full year after obese people went on an eight-week, very low calorie diet. The dieted body can lower metabolic rate up to 40%, slow transit time in the gut to extract more of the nutrients from food, and divert calories from energy into fat storage."
