Ah, Friday. Is there no greater weekday? Coupling it with a one pound drop makes it even better.

In spite of a (minor) injury to my hand I went to my kickboxing class last night. I added a lot of wrapping to my knuckles and fingers and made the wrap tighter than usual. So far the hand seems to be no worse than last night and maybe even a little better.

I've made an interesting discovery in regards to those classes as well. Usually I run about 5 kilometers before the class for my dog, who needs the exercise. However, he's been down with allergies (which cause the pads on his paws to peel) so I haven't been running him (and no, playing tug of war does not count as a run). The discovery this this: When I run before class I burn 900 to 1000 kcals. When I don't run I burn 800 to 900 kcals. It turns out at running really does jump start your workout. However, if it actually improves your metabolism or just keeps your heart rate higher I have no way to tell. Something worth thinking about, certainly.

So this weekend (and this evening) look to be booked. Drinking tonight, a birthday party (and drinking) tomorrow. I have nearly abstained from alcohol recently, but I don't think one beer a day this weekend will cause any problems. I hope everyone has a pleasant weekend!

I agree - any exercise tends to rev-up your engine for a good 10 to 12 hours making you burn more calories than you would have otherwise. I'm assuming you use a Body Bug or something like that to count your calories burned? I'm sure a couple of beers won't be a big deal. As long as you don't freak out if the scale shows a little water weight next time you step on. Alcohol tends to cause a bit of dehydration followed by water retention. Of course it's different for everyone, so you may not notice any difference. Have fun at all the parties!

Nina, I never freak out. I stoically accept that my I will gain and lose weight almost at random. So long as the trend is in the direction I want, I'm happy. I use a Polar heart rate monitor. I would consider the BodyBugg, but the monthly fee annoys me enough to not purchase or use their product.

I know what you mean about the monthly fee. that's the reason I didn't get it. I was thinking about it, but decided to forego another expense.

D'oh, I forgot about that. It was supposed to be on the first line. "Ah, Friday. Is there no better weekday? Coupling it with a one pound drop makes it even better."
