Rincewind42's Journal, 25 September 2017

Considering this is a diet website, I find it ironic that so many of us post pictures of food all the time. So I'll buck the trend and post a picture of the gym. Also, for the first time, the scales in the changing room are sitting dead on 100 kg. So this routine is definitely working.

Eh, my partner lost a LOT of weight by eating high fat foods, before becoming physically comfortable enough to hit the gym. It all starts with food choices. Pictures of attractive, healthful foods inspire me. Pictures of my own boring food remind me I did the work. Pictures of my abs are how I monitor my body. I do raise an eyebrow when I see pictures of candy wrappers, cookies, fast food. To each their own...

I felt the same way when I began my journey, but then I realized that worrying about what other people thought about me was my problem not theirs. I soon discovered that most people at the gym don't care and are generally more than willing to help if you need it.

@wolf, was that to me? Let's put it this way: it wasn't about other people's opinions.

I couldn't agree with you more 👏👏👏 Being physically active is equally as important as eating a balanced diet.

I always figured that the people that are posting the candy wrappers are kids trying to make a joke or temp one of us LOL

Just in general T8U9 a lot of people do feel self conscious about going to gym.

It is doubly ironic that people are shy to go to a gym when we all know that is the one place that can help us most. See: https://www.quora.com/I-want-to-go-to-the-gym-but-Im-fat-and-will-feel-like-Im-being-judged-Should-I-avoid-it. I've mentioned this many times before in my journal entries. The easy way to lose weight is not a restrictive diet (though that is a part), but an active lifestyle. For me, walking was the entry point to getting fit. I started doing just a few miles every other day, then increased till I was doing 10 miles hikes three times a week. Last year I had increased the distance till I was doing 25 miles walks. However, that amount of walking takes a lot of time and it is too easy to skip your exercise when the weather isn't good. Don't be scared of the gym. Most gyms have private areas and private classes if you are really self-conscious. In reality, nobody in the gym will judge you. The instructors and staff really do want to help you.
