susieq1941's Journal, 23 December 2007

I am a little nervous tonight because I ate around 1500 calories, and went over my average of 1150 per day, over the last few days. Although I have had a 3 lb. weight loss over the past 2 weeks which is excellent for me, I am afraid that my weight will go up although my calories have been all good food choices. In the beginning I lost ever so slowly, but I wasn't counting calories because we didn't have this tool. I am so afraid of "losing the control" I have found lately, and that my rising calories will "show up". However, my buddies have written that it is important to see how ones' body reacts to different foods, perhaps higher calories, and I will try to keep positive. Assuming I gain weight, I will have to get back the control......this is what is really bothering me, I feel that eating more lately is due to lack of control (compulsive eating) and I have been so happy to have not felt this way recently......I hope by venting, I can let go of this over-eating.......

I AM BACK AGAIN WITH A P.S. I just got in touch with the fact that I have been emotionally eating all week; some chaos occurring in both homes of my 2 grown daughters who are both moms, and it's effecting me-Sooooo I am emotionally eating!!!!!!!!! Maybe now that I know this will help......thanks bt.

Being aware is good thing. Seems chaos is what being a mom is about most of the time :) Hang in there, the storm always passes. You can get back on that horse of your's and ride away into a peaceful sunset.

I have a friend who says there are no such things as coincidences. I am glad we are both up late to read one another's journals tonight......Have a good sleep when you get to it!!!!!

Finding triggers to eating is KEY! :) Congratz on realizing it!! That is very good.... not so easy though. Okay, so now you know that you emotionally eat, so you must now switch it up... might I recommend a nice hot cup of tea?? For sure a big ol glass of water, too! :) Keep up the great work... YOU are working through this!

I like the hot tea idea... chamomile (sp?) is very soothing and helps you relax. I also read somewhere that hot drinks take away hunger.

Yayaya!! I attribute some of my newly found success to drinking a lot of tea. I love the sleepytime tea (chamomille) at night and a variety of others, most with some green tea in them for day time. YUM! Yes, it does satisfy hunger for me, too! :)

I've been overdoing things a bit myself the last few days on the calorie front, and also feel pressured by both the calorie count and the scale. These to me however, constitute the ultimate control mechanism (I know, I know, about the control freak thing). We know that there are 3,500 calories in a pound, so if your metabolism is burining 1500 calories a day and you overshoot every day for one week by 500 calories (2000/day), you will gain exactly one pound at the end of the week. While water gain can be a bit disturbing, this is perception problem which plays on ones emotions (perception is not reality). There are a few *minor* caveats here (some foods require more energy to process than others, etc.), but nothing really worth measuring or worrying about IMHO. Having said that, I have found that if you just apply the math and are willing to face the music on a daily basis, you have little to worry about. You tweak things a little here and there, and you tip them back in the proper direction as needed - simple math. Other than becoming "data driven" is my reasoning flawed? Merry Christmas Susieq (and thanks for your support this year)!

My key word will be TWEAK. In my former state of mind, I forgot everything: that I could go to phase 1 for a day, that I could lower my calories as needed-It is simple math, but there are times when I get so out of sorts I can't keep my eye on the ball. Back to normal today (normal?).....Thanks too for your support and sharing, buddy......
