Fritzy 22's Journal, 24 August 2017

Had another potato chip day. Not sure why I crave them so badly and so often. And I normally give in when I am craving something because I can't stop thinking about whatever it is. I knew this would happen when I bought the chips earlier this week. It was kind of a "scheduled" binge. I'm very analytical and I realized while I was indulging that I really wasn't enjoying the chips. So I stopped eating (normally I would almost finish an entire bag of chips). I logged in the chips and dip. Not sure if it's accurate since I didn't count the chips as I went, but it's bad enough. Then I took the rest of the chips, more than half the bag and put them in snack size baggies and put in the pantry. I'll probably throw out the rest of the ranch dip. The next time I post my weight is Monday, hopefully I'll get through the next 3 days without getting into those snack sized bags of chips. Need to go back through the calendar to see when the last time this happened was, I know it wasn't long ago. Don't know why I crave the chips! I don't crave sweets normally, I can resist bread even though I love it.

Still time for damage control. You can do it.

Thsiun, at least I'm not hungry at all and probably won't have anything else today. I know that's really not good, should try to eat something healthy. Tomorrow.

Just a couple of my own insights...when I crave chips, it's usually because I need some salt in my diet, so before the craving hits full tilt, I just add a little more salt in my cooking. The other thing is I love the "crunch", so use pork rinds, celery, and other "crunchy" foods.

Tbh same, I LOVE potato chips. And I used to eat them everyday, which caused me to have 4 kidney stones. I'm working on eating less salt now :)

Try Quest Protein Chips when you are craving potato chips. The BBQ are yummy!

My very best suggestion is to never eat them out of the bag aimlessly. I weigh every single portion of everything I eat, especially cheat foods. That way there is no denial or lying to yourself. Weigh the chips and the dip on a food scale. Know what you are consuming. When you see how small a portion truly is and how much, carbs, sugar, fat etc is in there you are far less likely to keep snacking on them. Be completely transparent with yourself, it's the only way to change habits that have been long forged. Good luck.

thanks everyone for all the support and ideas. Not sure why I crave the salty snacks and specifically potato chips. It has been a New Year's resolution 2 or 3 times to give up the chips for the following year - one year I actually made it through October! This year I didn't make it past the first week in January. I don't crave sweets, but then I realize I do indulge most mornings with a small cup of hot chocolate. So I may try working in something salty (maybe a dill pickle) to see if the cravings stop. I am going to throw the rest of the chips in the backyard for the deer to eat.

you're doing awesome! just recognizing an issue is so much more than I think the average person does these days. I'm the same way only with sweets instead. it's motivating to see someone else struggling and yet (at least halfway) succeeding in improvement! sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't have this down. it's nice to feel like I'm not alone. thanks for the inspiration!!

The texture is hard to match! Like horseshu said, sometimes pork rinds hit a near spot.

These seem like a lot of work, and nothing like potatoes chips, but https://lowcarbyum.com/baked-cucumber-chips/
