I've modified my diet and I'm still gaining! I just about cried this morning when I stepped on the scale. I guess I'll modify my exercise habits and see what happens. I'm eating better and snacking less than 2 weeks ago, I just wish my scale would reflect that. After a visit with my mother this morning, she told me I looked puffy. Did anyone else have problems retaining water after starting the diet? My doctor had offered to prescribe a mild diuretic when I started dieting, so I'm wondering if water retention might be a side effect. Just a thought.

okay. that is a 'little' unusual, at least in my case...hmmm...well are you nearing your period? that might seem like a dumb question, but possibly that might account for a little extra water retention/weight. Maybe keep track of your sodium intake...try to cut back. please don't get too bummed out, i can imagine how disheartening that is. we're here for ya!!!

I've found that in phase I of the South Beach Diet I have to follow the diet very closely, especially with respect to carbs, and sweet stuff. If you're not doing that try a few days of following the diet really strictly and see if that helps. Just take it one day at a time. Also working out helps me a bunch. Don't be too discouraged, just stay on plan and keep plugging away at it. You'll see improvement.

If you can manage it, post your daily menus (what you actually eat). Sometimes just writing it down you'll notice things you didn't notice before. Plus it gives you a bunch of extra sets of eyes to point out things that might be holding you back. Best of Luck!!
