Ok, well, got away with that last couple of weeks without any increase in poundage, despite numerous over limit days, though to be fair, I did not do it every day, and it was not all trashy food.

I have been here before, so I am not too surprised, as this is one of the positive elements of losing the weight in a slow steady manner, aka, you find your weight often goes back to the last 'stable' point if you just eat normally again and give it a few days to work itself out.

I have been following a tighter regime again in the last few days, as in working harder to not go over my RDI, so hopefully, that will translate into another 1lb loss into the coming week as I doubt I could get away with another week or two of overeating without an increase in weight.

Hope everyone has a great day and weekend.

Best wishes.

My stable point at the moment seems to be 76.5 kilos. I just keep bouncing back to it. But it's down from 109 kilos 2 years ago, so I don't mind so much. Have a good weekend.

Hi Minitata, I don't mind and don't worry about it, I have lost just over 1.2 stone since March...I eat what I like for the most part, and more often than not I stay within my RDI...which results in 1-2 lb Avg loss per week...which is brill and I am very happy with my progress...I get that for some folks my approach is a little too relaxed and laid back, but it works and I rarely find myself struggling with my food or worrying about my weight going into the future...Last week I had a huge kebab too and KFC on Tuesday just gone, shared one of them big party buckets with my family...It was ok, not had it in a while...I just figure some weeks are like that and others not, and it all works itself out in the end as long as I get back to it the next day...My weight comes off fairly slow compared to some folks here, but I am aiming for the recommended healthy sustained weight loss of 1-2 lbs a week, and it stabilises nicely, and I find if I over eat, as long as I get back to working within my RDI, it all falls back into line within a few days and my averages are still fine...best wishes...

I envy you in some ways. I have to be so careful - but I'm 62 and not very mobile - so I can't count on exercise calories. I've also mucked up my metabolism with many years of yo-yo ing. Just keep on doing whatever works for you.

Hi Minitata, I am sedentary...I have a sit-down job, 12-14 hours working on a computer usually...I just realised that I was the problem, not the diet, the exercise or lack of it, not the food or my hormones, though I accept that for some folks (myself included, as I take insulin) this can play a part...I just had to accept, I was the problem, I am the reason it fails and stopped blaming those other things or making out people did not get me or my issues and stopped looking for some magic answer or what most of us want, an easy ride out of fat town, I stopped making it more complicated than it needed to be and I just decided to try harder to stop eating too much crap and too much food in general, and take more interest in what I was eating and how it affects me and let the rest work itself out...I am much happier with my relationship with food now, which was really the issue most of us have to some degree. I am just much more relaxed about the whole thing.

Yes, until you accept that you yourself is what has to change, you'll keep on failing. For me it was the threat of going on insulin, I persuaded my doctor to give me 3 months to turn the numbers around - within a month of going low carb I'd done it.

We all been there and I too have been eating what I want last few weeks and surprised myself that not put on. I do not tend to go over 1000 cals a day not trying not to just can't seem to eat over it and yet still struggle with loss. Glad your ok and losing xx

Hi Keats, yeah was thinking I would have put at least 1-2 lbs back on but was pleasantly surprised, again, to discover I had just stayed the same...very pleased, still on target for 1-2lbs per weeks Avg...My current RDI guide, (maximum) is 2500 and I try to keep to about 80%-90% where poss...as long as I am under limit more often than over, it all works itself out ok and I eat whatever I like really, I just try not to eat too much of it...Sound like you may need to add a few more cals, maybe another 200 see how you go, 1000 is quite low...you may be on the borderline of 'starvation' mode...

I was trying to explain this to a friend of mine the other day, about how not eating enough can cause you to plateau, just as eating too much can cause a halt in your loss...of course you need to make sure you are not eating too much, and keep a check on your current RDI, but not eating enough is bad for your goals too, and in the long run just sets you up for a gain once you start eating a more normalised food intake, as in, more calories...you are also more prone to headaches, feeling tired, some women 'lose' their monthly cycle, you start dreaming/thinking about food, and are more susceptible to bingeing, you are far more likely to get caught in a binge/starve cycle, as in, you eat too much, get guilty and then over-react by starving yourself for 3 days, then have another binge a few days later, you can get super irritable, constantly feel unsatisfied with your food, etc, etc, because your body thinks you are in famine mode, so check your RDI, reduce it by about 10% and aim for that...You need to eat enough to lose weight healthily and consistently, I know it sounds counter intuitive and goes against all the diet bulls##t most folks have been fed, where you have been conned into believing you need to make things complicated and starve and deprive yourself to be successful, and it is just not true, nor advisable and is one of the top debunked diet myths...according to the RDI calc here, you should be eating 1500-1800 cals for sedentary to low active...so I would do your calc again if you are not sedentary-low active, and if you are, then aim for 1400-1600 per day, which gives you a nice little 100-200 cal buffer for days when you overdo it, and if after 1-2 weeks you have not lost 1-2lbs, drop it by 100...

Hi Keats, no I do not monitor anything apart from the calorific intake (and my Blood Glucose levels) and I weigh myself no more than 1-2 times every 14 days...Carbs do affect me, as I am diabetic and on insulin, but to be honest, as long as I eat a balanced enough diet, and do not over eat, my BG is fine, neither insulin nor carbs, not even refined ones, are the devil's spawn that they are made out to be, though I do agree, some carbs are better choices than others for various reasons, and I only take as much bolus insulin as I require, which some days is little to none, my own issue is that I have fairly aggressive sleep/nocturnal hypos and thus often have very high morning BGs if I do not take basal insulin even if I have only been asleep for 4 hours and eaten a biscuit before sleep, some days I do not bother, and I can get away with it for 1-2 days at most......Just grab your RDI, knock 100cals off, give it 1-2 weeks and see how it goes, if you fail to lose 1-2lbs, drop it by another 100cals and repeat until you start moving...Do not get impatient and convince yourself that you need to find some complicated and magical answers to your woes, just keep working at it and find your limit and then work to that, and every time you lose less than 1-2 lbs every 2 weeks and you have in all honesty been good with your discipline and not just pretending, then review the RDI again...Patience is an attribute that will serve you well if you can let it into your mental approach, I work with a few folks who are experts in this field and I can honestly tell you, once we drop the need for 'instant and near instant gratification' with regards to weight and our progress, we do a lot better, feel less guilty and stressed and are a lot happier...
