Herbie's Journal, 10 November 2007

Still hanging steady: I've been fluctuating between 130.8 and 131.6 for the past few days, but no real trend up or down. I'm frustrated with the plateau and have been judging myself very negatively the past few days... especially when I am tempted to eat something that isn't strictly within the diet. I'm a bit of an overachiever/perfectionist about some things and it's probably not that healthy to be so fixated on the scale at this point, I think. It's been a long haul, and I think I need to keep the big picture in mind. I've made such a big change, lost almost 40 pounds and gone from an 'overweight' to 'healthy' BMI. This last pound really isn't worth getting so frustrated about!

I did my core workout tonight again, which is good. It's just two sets of some different abs exercises that a physical trainer recommended a few months ago. I didn't get them in on Thursday (hosting our weekly poker game) or Friday (going to the elementary school carnival). But, I'm on track for doing them 3 or 4 times a week, which is good.

I leave on Wednesday morning for a 5 day conference in Chicago. I would love to hear advice from anyone who does a lot of traveling on how to make good food choices. I bought a small box of South Beach granola bars to use as breakfasts, but as a few others on this site have noted, they don't seem particularly healthy! I'm going to bring them as a back-up plan anyway, but would love to hear any good suggestions from you all.

Hi Herbie, If you want to go lower why not just do a juice fast or a water fast for a day, that should break through. I was under the impression that you weren't in the least bit worried about this; you have done so very well and are where you are supposed to be. The trip *is* a threat though, be careful there. Take care...

I have every confidence in your success being gone! You can do it! I think, many of these conferences are getting better about having good food available, now with so much of our society struggling with being overweight. I would suggest trying to look at it, like you are trying to eat on phase 1 while you're gone, if it's possible. Many of them offer protein at the meals, however the snacks tend to be carb or sweets loaded. Maybe you'll be able to use your snack bar as a snack if they offer healthy meals. If not, just eat "enough" and drink a ton of water. :) You can do it! :0)

are you on phase 1 or 2...if on 2 you can take a box of cereal with you or oats and make them in your room for breakfast...and pack a small bag each morning with 2 allowances of nuts or cheese stix and carry them with you during the day...night and dinners out are easy..large salads everywhere...have oil and vinegar dressings with cracked black pepper adn that is always good...you can change up the proteins...
