A tale of woe -

So, on saturday, my husband had a business dinner to attend, and we both went to show face (he is going up for a promotion in the summer, and it is always good to remind the bosses that you are a team player). It was a retirement for two and a welcome for two. Now, I have lost 40 lbs since these people last saw me, and I am feeling a little good about myself. I am fitting into clothes that I haven't worn since I was pregnant 5 years ago, and I think I am definitely in better shape than I was then. So I put on a wrap dress that fits my newly uncovered curves well and looks appropriate for the event, I even put on extra underwear to smooth out the bumps (yes, they are still there and probably will never go away). I think I look pretty good...no I ROCKED THAT DRESS! My husband confirmed. At the dinner, my husband started talking to one of the retirees who is from his department, and I introduced myself to his wife and started the "wife talk" stuff. We chatted about school systems, her second career as a museum docent at a really great local museum, and other random things. I thought we made a connection. The dinner commensed without incident, and as we were leaving, we stopped by their table to say goodbye. As I leaned over to say "nice to meet you", she leaned over and asked "Are you expecting?" I mean really! Who would do such a thing. My bubble had been burst, no matter how much I thought I looked great, some people will just cut you down. I stewed over this the whole way home, and tried to console myself that at least I looked fertile....bottom line, I was floored. This isn't the first time this has happened. Long before I was pregnant, about 15lbs under what I am now, a very very similar thing happened while on a vacation, and it stung just as much then. WHy would people say these things. The wife was stout...maybe even big boned, and certainly since we had talked about how we liked Zumba, she is body conscious.



ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!! I am working on getting over it, but the frustration lingers.

And no, I am not expecting thank you.
