Mariska Malemes's Journal, 24 February 2017

OK, so obviously haven't been working on anything.

I have it in my head that I am just struggling with "which type" of diet to do. And yes, it's a diet. As much as I say it's a "lifestyle change" we all know that we have to get on a program, set a goal weight and possibly date, and stay with it.

Once we lose the weight, it's not throw caution to the wind, but rather now I can ease up.

So, yes, it's a diet.

Am I changing the way I eat? Not really. I actually love healthy food. Vegetables, olive oil, lean meats and fish, quinoa, etc. It's the calorie counting and feeling like I'm a failure if I have too much.

I've been really cheating the past couple of days and in retrospect, I always see that it didn't taste as good as I thought it would or remember just scarfing it down and not thinking and then reminding myself that it didn't even taste good.

I need to remember this when I think about buying and eating things that are horribly bad for me.

So, I am beginning to eat healthfully today again. Won't exercise because my main goal today is to eat healthfully, savor every bite, and enjoy it.

I have been in the situation of eating Atkins bars because they are low carb, but then realizing the sweet taste just makes me want more. So like you it is never really as good as what I think it will be, and then I end up aggravated at myself.

Sometimes I have bought something to eat and it hasn't tasted as good as I thought it would but I have kept eating it as though it would somehow improve! And at the time I am thinking "this is stupid!" It's good to get over the "clean plate club" notion, too. Leave some food behind, even if you want it but especially if you are satisfied. Overeating is "wasting food" just as much as throwing food away, but eating it doesn't serve your best interests.
