EdMcL's Journal, 11 February 2017

Was at the doctor's yesterday! They were thoroughly impressed with me. All my blood work came back perfect. My A1c was 5.5 and fasting BG was 88. Blood Pressure was 108/74. Triglycerides were normal. Overall cholesterol was 163. (I am eating LCHF).
I was on a combined 3 medications for BP. I am now on a 1/2 dose of one (medoxomil). He reduced the metformin to 500mg once a day. (I am not sure I am going to take the metformin). I am already consistently in the 80's in the morning. Officially 52 lbs lost since the last doctor's visit. He says another 30 and he will take me off all the medicine, including the statins. Hopefully that will come by next visit. (I go every 3-4 months right now). Body is taking it's good old time losing weight! Last 3 weeks have slowed down a lot. I don't care though. I am going in the right direction and feel really good! Really gotten used to the IF and way of eating. I really don't miss anything yet and it's been since September. Thank you for all the support and all the recipes you people post. It is always nice when I feel like something new, I can come here and find a recipe! Only 120 to go. One day at a time!

Congratulations to you! Very happy for you. I just found this site and joined today. I see a lot of people noted as you did that you are eating LCHF. Could you please tell me what that is. Thank you and God bless you as you get healthy!

SolidGrounds- Welcome!! Low Carbohydrate, High Fat. Essentially, no bread or bakery products or added sugar. Meats, fish and most vegetables, legumes, not nuts. raspberries and blackberries occasionally. Definitely check the recipes on this site! You will be surprised what you can do without sugar and carbohydrates. Try to keep carbohydrate consumption around 20 grams per day. This is what I use as a rule of thumb. I have a recipe for "bread" that uses almond flour. Only 2g carbohydrate per serving. Good luck on your journey and you will find a lot of nice and sometimes funny people on this site.

Thanks HCB. It's one of my motivations for this weight loss. Tired of the chemicals and the cost!

Oh, Wow!! Thats how I try to look at it when fat loss is slow -- my body still feels healthier, no heartburn, etc. --

Brook-leo, very interesting. The only thing I have to say is there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. There are essential fats, and essential proteins. You can live without carbs, not without fats and proteins. I have had success with high carb low fat diets too. I just ended up gaining it all back plus. Can't say if this is going to be any better except that I really don't miss anything this time. Amazing recipes with butter and olive oil and I still loose weight and get healthier. Time will tell. Medicine is still split 50/50 between the two ways of eating. I think the secret is to do what works. I couldn't do high carb this time because i was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. It is now in remission because of my eating habits.

Heartburn! Almost forgot! Stringofpearls, you hit it on the head. Last time I had heartburn was before I started this change. Definitely was able to put the Zantac away!
