Next to the last day of the year-getting a leap on all those resolutions we make while under the influence of a New Year's Day. Having gone through three shoulder surgeries this year, I was finally informed by the hospital dietitian that I was seriously deficient in my protein intake-very useful information-and long overdue! Her main message to me was that I should immediately start rethinking my nutritional choices, plus up my exercise from standing up, then sitting back down in front of my computer-NOT acceptable for burning calories or maintaining muscle tone! And at my age I should be able to call BS on my own excuses. So first thing I did was get a wonderful, frisky, very friendly Cairn Terrier Rufus) that absolutely requires walking everyday, otherwise I will have one very morose dog on my hands. It's been a month now and I've pretty much changed my exercise routine-what routine you ask? OK, OK, I now have a walking routine and am not allowing myself or the weather to provide any excuse for not walking. I do it five days, on the sixth, I rest, but send Rufus to a wonderful service, "It's all about the dogs" where they have huge indoor and outdoor playgrounds for dogs and Rufus comes home happy and tired. On the 7th day, I explore new ways to exercise, like getting back into my photography and take Rufus with me.
