onmyway's Journal, 07 January 2010

I need to add an addendum to my New Year's resolutions....I need to try and journal more. Months ago I journaled every day, and I think it is helpful to do so. It certainly makes it easy to take a look back at how your plan has been working, and possibly see where you may have taken a wrong turn. I'm still doing well on my plan, but I find that I'm not quite as strong-willed as I was. Not that I think there wasn't room for a little more leniency in my plan...but I just want to make sure that I don't let things slip too much. I added some calories to my daily intake...usually around 1500 now, which is an increase of about 200. I find I'm still losing weight. My bigger concern is that after 6 months of working out with a great deal of discipline, I find that it's becoming easier and easier to put off my workouts. That's what I'm going to keep my eye on right now...pushing myself to get my exercise. It's been an important part of my weight loss, I don't think I would have lost these 45+ lbs without my strict dedication to a minimum of 4 days a week of cardio workouts.

You are so right, the workouts count and keeping an eye on our plan is so important. I have to journal, it keeps me sane and focused, plus I learn so much from my buddies.

I learn a lot from buddies as well. I started journaling more as a way to keep a record for myself...what I was doing, what I was eating, etc. It is a great help. I also keep a spreadsheet of everything I eat, daily calories, etc. I think the holidays hit my desire to work out more than they hit my eating habits. I'm still trying to sort it all out, and incorporate my Wii Fit into my workout, but have to make sure I keep my elliptical/cardio workout as my primary focus and not let it suffer. I've cut my cardio from 40 minutes to 30, to try and get myself back in the right frame of mind and make it not seem such a daunting task. Once I'm comfortable with that again, I'll look at pushing higher, but have to remind myself of what's important...it's not pushing higher and higher, but rather making sure I'm doing at least what is needed and doing it regularly. I tend to get too competitive with myself. lol

Journaling is in some ways my therapy. It helps me so much to process things in that way. The bonuses are being able to look back and the support I get from the comments. That was a surprise for me ... I never imagined I would discover and gain a supportive group of friends here. I learn from reading others journals too!! Do keep up on the exercise. I think it is good to vary our calories intake and exercise but keeping up on both is important!!
