Since my diet is kind of vague, I wanted to write down the things that I think are working, which are helping me slowly lose weight.
Foods: Cut out: cheese, deli meat, chips, crackers, alcohol, soda Less of: eggs, bread (eat only whole grain), sandwiches More of: apples, other fruit, raw and cooked vegetables, water, seltzer Occasionally: protein or slim fast bars, slim fast shakes, 1 or 2 cookies, small bowl of ice cream, tic-tacs
Behavior: Consider portions -- if I am really hungry, eat more, but don't just automatically put a large amount on plate/bowl. Stop when just full, not stuffed. Try a low-calorie healthy thing first, like eat an apple for a snack instead of automatically going for a protein bar. But, if still hungry after the apple, a protein bar is ok. Eat the vegetables / salad on dinner plate first. Since I get really hungry at 4 pm and usually eat a big snack then, it's okay to skip dinner if I'm not hungry at dinner time. Can sit at table with family without actually eating. Walk every day, and do more extensive exercise when I can. Have seltzer instead of wine or a cocktail when eating out. Eat out to really enjoy the experience, not just out of laziness. Bring healthy snacks in car to avoid having to resort to fast food. Consider whether something is really worth eating -- if it's not tasty and I'm not really hungry, then it probably means I just need a break, so I could try reading Facebook for a bit, playing with the dog, playing a game on my phone, or calling my mom.
