What is the right weight?

So I’m over half way to my goal. It’s really exciting – 56 more pounds and I’m at 199. But I’m starting to think, should 199 really be my goal weight?

According to the BMI calculator, since I’m only 5’5”, my “normal” range is 120 to 150 pounds. It would be amazing to be in the “normal” range, but I would have been in elementary school the last time I weighed that, and can’t imagine what I’d look like at that weight, or if it is even achievable.

I think I chose 199, because it’s out of the 200s, and it’s probably what most of the people in my family weigh. I know that shouldn’t be the benchmark, but they’re my baseline of normal.

But then I think, if I can get to 150, it makes me that much healthier, and as crap happens in my life (i.e. pregnancy), if I gain 10 pounds, it’s not the end of the world.

Ultimately, if I could get down to 169, that would be awesome, because I would be able to say I had lost as much weight as I actually weigh (which would be cool, but definitely shouldn’t define my goal).

So I think for now, I’ll leave my goal at 199. It is achievable for me.

I think you are right to leave your goal weight at 199 for now. Then when you get there re-evaluate your weight...how you look, how you feel. If you are happy, then stay at that weight. If you think you would feel or look better if you lost a little more, then maybe try to lose another 10 pounds. The re-evaluate again. Just keep doing that until you are happy. I don't believe there is a "correct" weight for everyone of a certain height. People's builds are so different. You may be right, if you go too low, you might feel uncomfortable.

Look at you movin on down girl! Hard to say what an "ideal" weight could be at this point. I think the WebMD questionnaire I like asks something like "at what weight do you remember being most comfortable with your body" or something similar, so I tend to go by that. For me I'd say that's 180, but who knows. I can't even imagine what I'll look like when I get to Onederland. I have a girlfriend who recently broke into the 190s & she looks great, but she also has a very different body composition from me. Wait...what? This isn't about me? ;)

LOL @ Kat - you're lucky you have a weight you can remember. I weighed like 210 pounds when I was 12, so I don't have a normal weight to look back at, so it's hard for me to determine what "normal" would be like!
