ShyGuy's Journal, 10 September 2011

It seems like everyday, I find myself challenged to stay the course of low carb eating. Today, a neighbor, who is a very good cook, offered me a plate of food; but being breaded and fried fish and chicken, along with an assortment of high carb sides, I knew I had better turn it down. I'm thankful I had the strength to do so; even after her mom said, "Oh, just don't eat the breading". I don't have the strength to do that, so turning it down flat was my best option; and I explained that I'm doing low carb, successfully, and don't want to mess that up. Whew! Looks like I dodged another high carb bullet, but it ain't easy.

<Applauding> Good job! I had pretty good success with Atkins but found that once I added fresh fruits and vegetables, the weight came back, even though I was not eating poor choices. Now I am on a diabetic friendly diet which restricts carbs but still enough to be satisfied and a nice steady loss of about 2 lbs a week without cravings and such. For women it is 45g of carbs per meal and for men 60g per meal. I have been losing 2 lbs a week for several months with plateaus only lasting 2-3 days. The calorie count is calculated on your weight and about the same as you find on the RDI here. I have been able to have great omelets, open face hot pastrami sandwiches with melted swiss, quesadillas, all kinds of great, healthy food that people don't normally think of as 'diet' food. But they are low fat, and low calorie and low carb but taste absolutely delicious. And these will be my choices even after I reach my goal because I feel good, have energy and don't get the high and lows from crazy sugar or too high of carb intake, or that bloated feeling. No starvation, or feeling deprived either. I don't think of this as a diet but as a Live-It. I preach that to everyone. Diet sounds so restricting and awful. Diets fail. Live-it does not, because it is something you make as a part of your life that is so good, you never feel like you are giving up anything except excess weight. You made a wonderful choice today. Hard to do because not only did you turn down an offer from someone that you don't want to make feel bad, but also because you chose to make a healthy choice for yourself and put your health as your priority. GOOD JOB!!!
