I've been reading alot of posts that use the word "cheat" lately. For me, that word has such a negative vibe. Maybe it's where I'm at in my head this time around but I never "cheat". Do I always eat what I'm "supposed" to? What I know is best for me and my health? NO NO NO! I make a conscious decision what to put in my mouth. No beating myself up afterwards, no regrets. This is NOT a diet nor do I want to live a life of deprivation. The positive that has come out of thinking this way is there have been very few deviations from my LC WOE (although vacation was one and it was wonderful). The more I give myself permission to indulge once in awhile, the less I do it. Heck of a deal! The mind can be a powerful asset!

So true...I think "cheat" has a bad mental effect on me when it comes to dieting. When I "cheat" I seem to feel more guilty. I still have yet to find a way to over come the quilt of having a treat. I notice though if I feel guilty or upset about having a treat I end up eating more crap. Dieting is such a mental game

the only person you "cheat" is yourself. Hence the guilt. I prefer "splurge". with the same understanding as "indulge". Mine usually come from constipation issues though, I think I've only indulged once or twice since I started this weight loss journey.

I read the book intuitive eating, and it is a lot about "cheating" and that that is a bad word and a bad idea, and I really think it has made the difference in my being able lose weight finally. I love being able to splurge or indulge when I make the decision to and not feeling guilty!

I just use the word choices... I make choices about what I eat and have to live with my choices, healthy and unhealthy....

I think of it as "choice" and I typically have it planned such as when we got to a restaurant - I see the menu the day before and plan my choices ahead of time. I do not go on impulse - that would be deady!
