KSttride's Journal, 10 March 2015

In late 2012 I started having problems with my left shoulder. Being stubborn, it took me a few months before I decided that nothing I was doing was helping and it was hurting more. That meant less mobility which just made it worse. I know, really dumb not to go to the Dr. Diagnosis: frozen shoulder. Cortisone shot etc. Two plus months of extremely painful therapy and the Orthopedist trying to get me to vote for surgery. Ah no, sorry. It took 8 months but my left shoulder was totally mobile and is at the moment normal.

My right shoulder apparently doesn't want to be left out. It is still almost completely mobile except to the side. And yes I've been trying to do the exercises I learned in therapy but it's getting worse. So far one cortisone shot. Today I finally decided to call the Dr again. A jacket that has never given me any problem getting in and out of, was very definitely a problem today. :( Typing is becoming painful as well.
Crap....I do not need this! I guess tomorrow I make a phone call.

I don't know it this will help: I may have had a similar condition. My right should was killing me. Could not sleep on my right side and even got to a point to where I could not do incline chest exercises or any shoulder exercises. I began a cleanse/detox program along with a joint supplement twice a day. Within 4 weeks GONE. So far it has been 7 weeks. I can do all of my incline chest and all shoulder exercises even increasing my resistance. I must admit I am not HEALED because when stretching I still have some funky noises. But ZERO pain. I have not seen a doctor because I REFUSE to have or be recommended to surgery. Hope this helps.

PS: The reason for the combination of a cleanse/detox is the cleanse/detox removes inflammation and reduces insulin in the body. This allows medications, supplements and nutrition to be better absorbed into the body. The joint supplement I know take I live by. I have tried other joint supplements in the past before cleanse/detox and nothing. I did stop the current joint supplement for two weeks. No pain but more popping and noises. I did another detox/cleanse and started using the joint supplement and the popping and noises have decreased. No BS this has worked GREAT for me!

You have my deepest sympathy. Call the doctor. Get the diagnosis for sure and try to get started on PT asap--it helps to catch it earlier. Frozen shoulder can be very painful and lots of people thing they had it because their shoulder was stiff for a while, but adhesive capsulitis is a totally different animal. My right shoulder was frozen in fall of of 2013--not really an injury but I think it was due to it being my mouse hand and I had a huge work project and was working all the time. My right shoulder really hurt--prescription pain meds didn't knock it out. I went through 6 weeks of therapy and when that didn't make much progress, I had the manipulation under anesthesia--it's not surgery per se but they do put you to sleep and move your shoulder joint to break up scar tissue. For me, that one was worth it because I was in so much pain with the right one. The pain stopped after the MUA, but I still needed 6 more weeks of therapy to regain movement because the muscles were so stiff from not moving for almost 6 months. In the fall of 2014, the left one started hurting. And movement became more difficult and I didn't wait as long this time and went back to the ortho and it was frozen shoulder AGAIN. So apparently in about 15% of the population who get it in one shoulder, get it in the other. So we are special ;-) This time I have a really good PT who my ortho sends all his "golf injury" people to. I'm going to try to just get as much movement as I can with the left one and avoid the MUA this time. I think it'll work because it's not my dominant hand. Good news is that my PT assures me that he has never had someone have a spontaneous reoccurrence (not caused by injury) of frozen shoulder in the same shoulder. So once this is done, it'll be done. Good luck. And keep exercising. I'm going to boot camp 3 times a week and I am keeping that up and doing whatever exercises I can with the shoulder and I think it will help me regain mobility. Susan

Logansmum2 -Thank you for your support and also for letting me know about your experiences! You are so right that meds just don't work. I do seem to remember the mention of the MUA but not by the Dr. It was the therapist who mentioned it. I stopped therapy after 2 months for a couple of reasons: I could FEEL myself tensing up on the drive there and I just didn't see that it was working. I don't know if it was just time for it to start getting better or if the tensing up before he worked on it just made it worse. I do know that the shoulder started getting more mobile over the next few weeks. It was probably a combo of both. I did get a Dr appointment and am going to request therapy again. Thank you so much for your info and feedback! GO-YA thanks for the info and if the therapy doesn't work I will think about it. :) Mom thanks for the good wishes!!!

Best of luck with your shoulder. Sounds like you have tried everything you can to avoid surgery. Sometimes it is the only solution, been there re: a neck injury, finally relented when I lost all use of my left arm.

You are welcome. It is so rare that I haven't met anyone in real life who had Frozen Shoulder so I wanted to reach out to see if I could offer any advice or support. It's a pain--literally ;-) My physical therapist is awesome and I feel like we are making pretty good progress (you don't happen to live in Atlanta, do you?) Another thing with PT is that my ortho wants me to go "doped up" so I take like 25mg of percocet and get someone to drive me to and from the appt--that way the PT can push the joint to break up scar tissue and I can stand the pain. Maybe that would work for you if your doctor is onboard. But it's a hassle to find someone to drive you back and forth. Good luck and reach out if you have questions.
