In a previous journal entry I mentioned that I was going to make an investment in a "new" piece of exercise equipment, the DeskCycle. I've been really concerned about how unhealthy it is to sit behind a desk 8 hours a day. I promised to post a "gadget review" so here it is (please note, no-one is paying me to give a good review- this is my own honest opinion): My DeskCycle arrived last night and was quite easy to put together. I took it to work this morning and set it up under my desk. I did purchase the optional desk display/cord so I could put the tracker on my desk where I could see it. After just one use, I can already say, I LOVE IT! First thing this morning I got a 10 minute fat burning workout in- just sitting at my desk checking emails and pedaling! I did have to switch out chairs though. They provide a strap you can use to keep rolling desk chairs from rolling away, but my chair swivels too and while pedaling that side to side motion seemed too much stress on my back. I decided to go with a stationary chair which works just fine. You might have to make some adjustments, lowering your chair, your monitor etc. until you feel comfortable, but I had no issues with being able to pedal under my desk and reach my keyboard to type or my mouse. I'm short though- about 5'3". A really tall person might have to stretch out more. The DeskCycle is very quiet, pedals smoothly and has a wide range of resistance from "cruising right along" to "this is going to make you sweat"! It's solid and well made and I feel as if I'm gong to get my money's worth from it. I can see this being a very useful tool on my journey to better health. At this point, I would definitely recommend it! This is just a brief review so let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer to the best of my ability.
