jmb3450's Journal, 20 January 2015

My wife and I got back from Buffalo last night, had a great visit and thankfully weather was relatively mild with minimal traveling through snowy roads. I did pretty well with eating other than snacking on M&M's hanging around from Christmas. Made the Buffalo Cauliflower that ClassicRocker posted in her journal and my stepkids loved it. My oldest stepdaughter is vegan so it's always interesting with food, from my standpoint anyway. Very happily ate some beef for dinner when we got back. :) They had a new beer for me to try, a brown ale made with coconut, caramel, chocolate...delicious stuff.

215lbs this morning and I think I've got some salt and carbs to flush out so hopefully on target for a loss at the end of the week. Onward and downward is the plan.

Good plan Jim. What is the name of the beer? Sounds delightful!

The beer is from Duclaw, called "Dirty Little Freak". Very nice, flavors of coconut, caramel, and chocolate are all detectable. I recommend it!

I was gonna ask how the cauliflower went over in Buffalo. How did you veganize it?

To make it vegan I used a vegan spread instead of butter, agave nectar instead of honey, and veganaise instaed of mayo or ranch dressing. My stepdaughter said the brand of panko crumbs we used were vegan, I guess some brands may not be? The original recipe doesn't use panko crumbs but they really make it a lot better IMO. I went light on the hot sauce again because of my wife but everyone else just poured it on afterwards.

Glen, I really got into cooking when I became a single dad with kids at home years ago. Unfortunately my kids suffered through my learning and experimentation, at least now when I experiment it usually turns out good. Have fun eating out, just plan/adjust for the calories of your beverage of choice and it should work out. And if not, tomorrow is another day. :)

Bill it's possible the beer was named from a song, they sure do come up with some crazy names for craft beers.
