Forgot to mention yesterday...my wake-up call was severe arthritis in my knees. My Dr. suggested a number of things and knee replacement is a definite in the future but for now, we're trying to tone it down a bit with less extraordinary measures than surgery; hence the need to lose weight. I did pretty well today but my day was rushed around too much so I didn't eat quite how I wanted...but one step at a time right? I DID buy a pedometer today and have been wearing it all day...anybody have any kind of reference table to give an idea what s "good" # of steps per day is? Some kind of range? I realize it depends on weight and activity level and such. I am trying to pay closer attention to what I eat AND drink and bought some snacks today that I believe are within that goal Also, timed myself on the eliptical today for 10 minutes. Yesterday was 5. I'll do 10 again tomorrow and then crank up to hopefully 15, 20 etc.

Good for you! The sort of standard goal with the pedometer is 10,000 steps. But I think a good approach is to wear it for a day or two to see what your normal range is and then try to increase that a little every day/week, just like your approach to the ellipitical. You can wear it on the exercise machines so that activity counts :)

The pain in my knees kept me from walking. My doctor said to take my pain pills 30-60 minutes before walking. When I started I was walking 1200-1500 steps a day. As the months passed by and my weight loss increased, I was doing 2000 and 3000 steps. In February I walked 5000 steps a day. 2500 steps a day is my goal now, because I am near my goal weight. Good luck!
