Tammy_13's Journal, 13 August 2014

It's been a while. A little over a month ago, my ex and I ended a 6 year long distance relationship. A few weeks past and I took a good look at myself in the mirror and decided that things needed to change. Since I graduated high school, where I was active daily with Varsity Swim and other after school activities, I had gained more weight than I'd like to admit. When I started college, I thought I'd be able to keep up swimming regularly and whatever other activities I wanted to do, but since the university I went to didn't have a pool, I had to rely on the bus schedule to get me to the pool at the junior college about 6 miles away. Eventually with work and other club activities, I just couldn't find the time. I joined a karate club, hoping that the activity would keep me in shape, but I noticed myself slowly gaining weight regardless.

A little over a year has passed since I graduated college. Working a desk job is even worse for my fitness than college... I'd heard of the freshman 15... but this is ridiculous. About 2 weeks ago I stood on a scale, not knowing just how much I needed to lose weight. when the digital number read 220, I stepped off then got back on, hoping that it was a mistake. Nope, 220. I remembered that a few summers back, I tried a diet called "Extreme Fat Smash Diet" but had since lost the book. I had dropped down to about 175 from 190 on that diet, and figured if it could happen once, it could happen again. After work I made a stop at the library and grabbed a copy. I can't say I've followed it to the letter, but in the past 2 and a half weeks or so, I've dropped 6 lbs. Not a bad start!

I made a goal for myself, since I have a gym membership, I'm going to use it every day until I reach my goal weight, and probably more after to maintain myself. I am trying to wake up around 6 AM to go to the gym every morning and swim for an hour, but since I'm such an avid gamer and night owl, that's proving to be more challenging than I expected. Since Monday (so granted it's only been for 2 days so far) I've started to swim every night after work.

Last night, I decided to time myself for a 25 and 50 (meter sprint). I finished the 25 in 23 seconds and the 50 in 54 seconds. Not proud of those times at all, but at least I have a starting point now.

I'll try to keep a log each week. For my sprints, I'll time my next one on September 1 then every following Monday.

On the path to recovery from a bad relationship and new goals for yourself. That's the right attitude. I too have a desk job, twice as hard to lose this weight, but trying hard.
