Happy St. Patrick's Day all! I actually have a corned beef brisket in my freezer but I think I am going to pass on cooking it. I LOVE it too much, and I think I would eat way too much of it!

Last night was very upsetting for us. We have been working on having our house de-annexed for the past year. The city administrator told us it would be no problem, and even gave us a written letter confirming it was in the works, so that we could get our daughter registered in the county school system. The city school she was zoned for is NOT GOOD! Our house in on the fringe of the city/county line. Everyone in our neighborhood is zoned county except for us. So, we got the letter, got her registered, and a week later, the man who promised us this was fired. Then the mayor told us this was not a possibility to be done, no matter what we were told, but that they would put it on the agenda for the city council meeting which was held last night. They completely shot us down, without even the slightest consideration. They wouldn't even vote on it. The worst part for me is that we have started Riley in kindergarten, she is adjusted, has wonderful friends, fixing to be tested for the gifted program, thinking she is at a school she will be going to for the next 5 years. Now we have to move her to another school next year. A school that is AWFUL!! I don't know what to do. We are thinking about buying a piece of property in the county. I just don't know. Education is so important to our family, and so this is a big deal for us. Anyway. I just needed to vent on that. It really makes me wish we had never moved back to this town. I am not prejudice, by any means whatsoever, but I do feel like we should not have to be the minority in our own schools. My daughter should not be the only child who speaks english in her classroom. I am just really upset about this. I am really sorry if I offend anyone by saying that.

i totally agree..yesterday my company sent an email with "spanish" terms that we have to learn to be able to communicate with the spanish clients...it is my deep felt belief that if you are in AMERICA for anything other than a visit...learn English...i should not have to learn another language to do business in my own country...could you pay for her to stay in her school...some of the schools around here will not provide busing but will allow a pay to attend system...on another note...your chart looks great

They won't allow any students from the city into the county. no exceptions. I guess b/c of SO many people doing it for the same reasons we are. The school she is zoned for is 94% hispanic, 2% caucasion. I just feel like most empasis will be on teaching the children english, rather than teaching my child what she should be learning.

We can't afford private school. Maybe for one of our children, but not both. The only private school here is 6,000 a year. We just can't swing that.

The local news just called and wants to do a story on us. They are coming to our house today at 1 to do an interview! Crazy.

That sounds terrible Gracie, there must be *someone* who knows the steps necessary to take so that your daughter can stay in the school you like (ask: who would know, who would care?). Anyway, Happy St. Patrick's Day. Don't let this derail your excellent progress.

That local news report sounds like it might be the answer. Handle it carefully.

We just want them to realize that an employee of the City of Dalton(the former city administrator), put in writing, on government letterhead, that this was a done deal. We paid them money, signed documents, ect. Had we doubted the process, we would have never started our child at a school she wouldn't be able to continue attending. It's just not fair to her.
