Vickiauntmick's Journal, 29 March 2014

Well, its snowing again. The past three times I keep saying it will be the last and I can finally start planting a garden. I want to grow my veggies this year. Its so expensive to be healthy.

We went to a Mexican place today to eat dinner. My husband is celebrating 1 week no cigarette! As usual, I had to send my dinner back 2 times because no one understands "vegan". I asked for 2 bean burrito's with no cheese and they covered everything in cheese the first time, then the second time it came out as 2 BEEF burritos with no cheese... which was way worse. The poor guy barely understood my hick accent- saying been and beef sounds similar to them. But they fixed it fast, so I got to eat before the hubby finished his dinner. It has opened my eyes to how poor the market around here is for people who are vegetarian/vegan. A person can't enjoy going out with others because of it. I have tried repeatedly to order food in pizza joints and have to return things at least once. I HATE returning food because of the idea people spit in our food if you cause trouble.

Hi there, I am in a country area in Tasmania, which is a small island south of Australian mainland. The weather is mostly fine, but gets cold during winter, but no snow. We had a veggie patch for years but then I became disabled and couldn't dig the garden at all. We have access to many vegetables and usually eat veg every main meal. I have been under a dietitian for nearly 6 months. She is vegetarian, and has advised me not to do total vegan, because you need the calcium from dairy... no cheddar cheese, but ricotta from goats milk... some yoghurt, light and skim milk. I eat carbs and fruit as well. But have reduced my Sugar intake by 90%. No cakes, biscuits, sweets, no icecream or candy....or chocolate! but I spoil myself one day a week with a very small treat. I am aiming to grow my own veggies again as well, but the winter is about to start, and not much grows unless you have a greenhouse. I will keep you in my thoughts, while we are on our weight loss quest.. bye for now ☆☆☆

I started trying vegan in May 2013 and did a 30 day raw vegan diet during that time. My husband and I were only engaged at the time and we did not live together, so it was much easier to monitor my meals being alone. When we married in August and he moved in, I backslid and began to binge on cheese and dairy, and then again meat. I tried to go back to raw vegan several times, but it was impossible with one refrigerator that was filled with gallons of milk, packs of meat, tubs of sour creams and butters... I could not fit all my veggies and juices anymore. I was on the verge of buying a second refrigerator just to keep to my diet. Its been the hardest thing to do. I thought it was hard by myself, but now I have to subject myself to buying two totally different diets and cooking meat and cheese for him, and scraping by to get my own meals in. The past two months I have been fully vegetarian, and mostly vegan. I did not choose to go go vegan for weight loss, I chose it for life. Mine and the animals I do not eat.

Sounds like that second fridge will be worth getting then, especially since you havent got enough room for your own food. Anyway, you know you have support here if you need it.. ☆☆☆
