C-a-f-f-e-i-n-e.

I've been working on my frothing skills again. I'm not ever going to be one of those people that does latte art, at least not while I'm still working, but I can hone the skills I have and enjoy the preparation as much as the consumption. that's my justification for moving more slowly on weekends. this is an older very basic machine, so no fancy buttons or gauges, but it still gets the job done. I have a friend who has a crazy fancy one, but he still doesn't know how to froth because the machine does it for him. what would he do if he was ever stuck out in the woods by himself?

that said, we have another dark sky, so going to walk dogs early and on the street vs. at the bottom of a canyon because there is actually a sizable riverbed down there. crazy!

but first, I'm taking the inflatables off the roof before the wind starts. the lights will be fine, but I'm not sure about jack skellington's likelihood of survival in a real winter storm. not going to chance it.

swam and walked yesterday. was hoping to do the same today, we'll see. posting my numbers but I didn't hit the weigh in button, so it is what it is. still committed to the memory banks of the internet until the robots take over.

yesterday's swim: 796 strokes (nope, I'm pretty sure I counted 810, but whatever), 148 average heart rate, 10.1 METs, yeah, wasn't breathing that hard. 12 minutes in peak, 9 in cardio. makes no sense with lower METs, but I swam and I walked, and I'm improving again. and it was colder. not as cold as today is going to be, but I knocked it out. I'm wondering if I notched up that current for sprints last week and forgot to turn it down. if so, I'm keeping up, so that's good.

enjoy the day. I used a brighter cup to simulate sunshine since the sky is dark grey.

I get two per morning. anything more and I'm super annoying according to those I used to share a workspace with. or maybe I was always annoying anyways and I finally listened after more than two? who knows? 🙀

coffee = life, shrewdness. I like frothing the milk. it's a process and it sounds very dramatic when done right. plus, the milk is hot and I only have to clean the spout. super easy.

Your coffee looks perfect to me, Kat! I'm going to quit caffeine for three weeks, once the Christmas celebrations are over (in Spain, the last holiday is on Jan 6). Last year I did it too, following Daniel's fast which I am planning to follow again, and I had caffeine withdrawal headaches! Wish me good luck XD

Eva - I've been considering doing the Daniel fast again this January, but with the coronavirus I just can't go to the grocery store every other day in order to get enough fruits and vegetables. Good luck going caffeine free!

you know, this sounds crazy, but espresso has less caffeine than regular drip or pour over type coffee, so my two tiny cups really don't affect me that much at the end of the day. I can survive with or without them and not have the withdrawal symptoms that some people have. Eva, try scaling back over three days and I think you can avoid the headaches. I should go weigh my beans and calculate how many grams I actually take in. for giggles, not science.

Of all the things I had to give up because of Gerd, coffee is the thing I miss most!!! Surprisingly I did not have headaches! You're talking to a person who has had no less than 1 cup per day for the past 36 years, and often two 16 oz cups, and occasionally a whole pot! When I tried fasting a couple of times I had raging headaches and so I likely won't fast again unless forced to, but I know you do eat on the Daniel fast. I'd probably wean off coffee slowly too if I started feeling bad. I still sneak a cup or two each week now that my symptoms improved, but I did go cold turkey and abstained for 6 weeks.

Thanks for the advice! I‘ll try to reduce tea/coffee progressively during the first week of January. Fritz, it may not be the time for you to do Daniel's fast. But you could try other types of “cleansing” if you wish, such as intermittent fasting or the 5:2 diet.
