So, after I joined LA Fitness, I talked to E the next morning. I started an excited speal and he says “No, no gyms until we pay off ALL our bills!” I say “ALL our bills, you have to be kidding me!” I don’t want to lie, so I start wording everything very carefully. I bring up that the costs will be covered in the budget by the money we will not be spending on the dog. He says “if we use all the dog money for bills, the quicker we pay off all the bills”.

The man is crazy. We are not supposed to go or do anything but sit around until ALL the bills are paid off? I don’t think so! Now, don’t get me wrong. I want to pay off the bills, but I want a life too. Doing some stuff (including a gym), will only slow it down by six months or so. We have paid off $13,000 in the last three years and that is with a new mortgage!

So, then I start to say how I think he should join too for the swimming. I say “even if you go only twice a week, I think it is worth it. You miss swimming sooooooo much!” He is still saying no, with an occasional “I will think about it”.

Now, at this point – I already signed him up and myself! LOL I put in for a desk audit at work (that means I am working above my pay grade and I should have a different position title and more money). The desk audit was in August and I will find out what I get very soon.

So, I tell E that LA Fitness is my upgrade present. He says, “Ok, when you get your upgrade, you can join LA Fitness”. I say “Well, my upgrade is a done deal so that means I am so going to be a member of LA Fitness.”:-) I am definitely getting an upgrade; it is just a matter of how much of upgrade it will be. It was a balance beam of words!

Now, the problem is that LA Fitness does not open until the end of November. So, yesterday I joined Planet Fitness for $10 down & $10 a month with no commitment. I want to have a place to go and start my new routine and get healthy again. I don’t want to wait 6-7 weeks! I gained almost all my weight back and lost most of my flexibility too. Planet Fitness is farther away then LA Fitness which is why I will switch once LA Fitness opens. Plus, I really NEED yoga classes. Planet Fitness does not have classes.

When E got home from work yesterday, I said, “Don’t be mad, plus I already did it. I just joined Planet Fitness. I want to prove to you I will be going to a gym. And if I go regularly, I don’t want any lip when I want to switch to LA Fitness.” He says “That is perfectly reasonable.” I feel like a very naughty wife!

Pay off ALL our bills! I mean really, & sometimes when he says this he includes the mortgage too!

So, I have been doing better with my eating. No bingeing, I haven’t bought any candy this week. I only ate 1 breakfast and 1 lunch yesterday, and 1 breakfast today. I will start tracking soon. I am doing much better. I am off the anti anxiety pills except for a sleeping pill. I am not crying as much. I miss Conan but I have to adjust to a life without him. Joining a gym is a huge part of the adjustment. I HAVE to change up my routine so I do not wallow. And I know I have a huge tendency to wallow! So, tomorrow is my first gym day. I hope I don’t over sleep! LOL Because that will not help my cause at all!

I'm glad he didn't give you a hard time. My defense would be, "being healthy and staying fit will save us $ in health care in the long run..."

I tried that Lindsay, but he said work out at home. I understand (to a point) where he is coming from. I have a lot of exercise equipment at home and DVD's too. But I need the change of scenery. My heart just breaks at home. I know I will adjust to being w/o Conan faster if I can just switch it up. I am so sick of crying and being sad. I know he is sick of me being sad too. I am fine as long as E is home, but I can't picture working out there right now. I couldn't even walk the neighborhood w/o a meltdown. LOL and I am not a quiet crier. I sort of wail. My poor neighbors!

I can give you lots of pro gym points to use on E if you need them. lol I went through the cost vs. bills with myself for so long that I think I have them memorized. lol I think it's great you've joined the gym. I think you'll notice you get more intense workouts, it gets you motivated, and it improves your mood. :) Congrats on drinking the kool aid

I'm kind of going through this with my hubby right now, but it's the opposite, he wants to join and I don't because of the money. The problem is that you have to make such a commitment and I've seen him start with the workouts then stop going after a week and we're stuck paying the bill until his commitement is up. So, I'm the bad guy in our scenario. :) But, I definitely see the benefit to it if you are going to go. Just make sure to get your routine and keep going once you're started. Good luck!!

It is actually no commitment. I was shocked. I can cancel anytime. And if I stop going I am all for stopping the payments. But I want to give it a shot. We don't have young kids, which makes it different too. We are so good; we share $20 a month for spending money. Share! I would never have even considered it if we didn't have the extra money because Conan is no longer with us. Plus, the gym for both of us is $60, the dog cost $200 plus a month because of all his health and food issues. That means $140 towards bills! I think that is reasonable. He doesn't. Oh, well. I support all the toys and comics and games he likes to collect. Given, once we moved he started buying WAY less. But I support him in keeping up with his stuff as far as I can (& his stuff is everywhere! We eat on one corner of the dining room table because of all his Clix, maps, paint, shoe boxes filled with more Clix take up the rest of the table. He cleans it off for parties/holidays only. We don't entertain much because of the cost. I feed his friends pasta every week because it is too expensive feeding 3-8 guys every Friday. I am a very supportive wife. Now, I want a little slack. I work full time and I am taking that slack straight to the gym! :-)

Good thinking, Glen. If I do quit, I would have to do another start up fee. But if I quit, I won't go back to them. There is a fee to suspend a membership. But if I am ill or whatever, and do that, it is worth $10 a month fee instead of a sign up fee for a few months. It is really close to my work. I work 35 hours a week whereas E works 40. That gives me at the very least, 5 hrs of work out time a week that is not infringing on family time. I call that gravy!
