2ManyCurves's Journal, 07 October 2013

Well, I am down surprisingly. After yesterday, I thought for sure that I would be lucky if I had stayed at the same weight. But, I suppose last night's 3.5 mile jog kept my body burning those excess calories. I spoiled myself a little this weekend...and not just with Japanese food. I bought some work out apparel: 1 new pair of running shoes, 2 pair of running socks, compression shorts, running shorts, and 2 long-sleeved moisture wicking shirts (one of which is thermal lined). I may not be logging in the fastest of times, but I at least am dressing like a runner. One thing about Fatsecret that I find annoying is that in the exercise portion there really is not an entry for jogging. There is brisk walking at the rate of 4.0 mph. And, then it goes straight to running at 5.0 mph. I am short. My chunky little legs can't stretch up to 5.0 mph yet. Yet, I deserve more credit than a brisk walk. I think I am jogging around 4.2-4.5 mph. I do this in intervals but on hills. I have been jogging downhill and some uphill while walking the straight and level areas. I have my first official race in ten years. It is a 5K next weekend. I will be able to scratch this off my short goals. I'm not looking to make a great time. I am just looking to maintain a constant pace the entire 5k. I'm really looking forward to this. I have persisted through blisters and chaffing for two months. I am proud of myself. On average I am doing 3.5 miles a night now. That is a huge difference from when I couldn't even make it one mile without stopping. Last night on my jog, I discovered the most amazing thing: compression shorts. Let me tell you, these are a fat girl's best friend. My thighs glided right along like a well-oiled machine. No inner thigh bruising, no pink blotchy painful chaffing. They didn't ride up and then didn't pull down. They even kept my tummy from flopping around and putting undue pressure on my bladder. I can't recommend these enough for ladies who wish to incorporate jogging (or even walking) into their exercise routine.

Today is going to be a great day. I am going to start a pot of chili for dinner tonight in the slow cooker. I am looking forward to going to work today. Then, I am looking forward to coming home this evening to do my run and also to hang up the zebra striped curtains I bought to surprise my daughter with when she comes home from her grandma's house. She is staying there this week as the kids are out on fall break. I have been shopping quite a bit lately. I need to slow my roll on running through my wallet. But, I find that since I am not going out to eat everyday for lunch, I have a little spare change lately. I'm loving the weather. I'm loving life. And, it is impossible not to smile today.

Sounds like you had a wonderful day all around!! Keep that smile going!! I think I'm going to look into those compression shorts myself! I'm going to try to start some slow walking on a treadmill at the gym, before going into the pool.
