Feeling very frustrated today! I have been staying on program faithfully since I started about 3 weeks ago. I was doing great! I have made a real effort to work harder at the gym when I go and now I am up almost 2 pounds! My body is so sore this morning and I just knew that I would have lost. What's going on?

Hi~ I feel your frustration. About 5 years ago I wanted to lose about 30 lbs and I started going to the gym faithfully...everyday! Nothing seemed to happen but what I didn't notice was I was toning and building more muscle and actually losing inches. Muscle weighs more than fat so don't be discouraged if the scale goes up a bit at first. Just keep at it :)

When your muscles are sore, it means you have a build up of lactic acid caused from little tears in the muscle when you worked out in the gym. This is a good thing, but the muscles repair itself with a build up of water. This is the weight gain you are seeing on the scale. It is temporary. Pushing yourself at the gym helps build strong mucscles and ups your endurance. You will be able to walk longer, go up stairs easier, etc. Drink lots of water! Successful weight loss isn't always seen on the scale. You could actually stay the same weight but go down 2 pant sizes because of exercise. Good luck!

That's very true that the scales don't alway show the "real picture". Just keep it up... don't be discouraged by not seeing the scales move, as you will be toning and ultimately losing inches! ;o)
