Dulce1984's Journal, 03 September 2008

Today was another good day. I stayed well below 20 NC and I am feeling great. My total NC for today was 10.41g. It's so crazy because I am not hungry AT ALL. I've been doing Atkins for a few weeks now and am sooooooooo happy that my cravings are pretty much all gone! I'm going out to eat Friday night and so I am worried that I won't have much choices or there will be hidden carbs in things I order. It's a spanish restaurant in the city so I might have to do some research and get the menu ahead of time to figure exactly what I should order. That's not crazy is it? Anyway let me do my food journaling....

For breakfast I ate 2 scrambled eggs with my good old trusty vienna sausages and 1/4 cup of cheddar cheese. I added a tbsp of sour cream too and drank 8oz. of diet green tea along with 2 cups of water. I'm obsessed with diet green tea, by the way. The eggs were a little too salty, I always have that problem with adding just a pinch too much salt. I need to like add none at all and just add it on after it's cooked or something. I felt satisfied and content with my meal, almost ready for a change though. For lunch I ate a can of tuna with 2 tbsp of mayo and a serving of the mediterranean salad blend. It really was a puny salad but I was fine with it and my stomach was too. We're on the same page now...For dinner I ate a bunless cheeseburger with a small salad which included mediterranean blend and two slices of tomato. I topped it with a serving of ranch and dipped my burger in some mustard. That was a tasty meal. I was very happy with it and very satisfied. I drank 2 cups of water with breakfast lunch and dinner along with one cup of diet green tea or diet green mango tea. So far so good!

Looking at my calorie intake it seems ok, not too high and not too low. My fat intake is pretty high (luckily I'm not on a low fat diet). My protein intake is great and my net carb intake is super low. It's been 3 days and I haven't even broke 15g of NC yet. I'm so pumped about these challenges. I know when these challenges are over I am going to be looking better and feeling better and I'm so excited about that!

I do pre-ordering research all the time. :) I must be crazy too! Don't be afraid of fat, just avoid trans fats. Fat gets you into ketosis, so it is good on this diet! Just as a reference, though, in the Atkins book, people count each serving of artificial sweetener as 1 nc, just because it does have metabolic effects and can affect weight loss, but not everyone does this. this site doesn't account for that. Like one serving of splenda is counted as 1 nc even though it is zero on the package, anything like jello or iced tea that is sweetened (even if it is diet) is counted as well.

Ok, good to know. So should I count my 8oz. of Diet Green Tea as 1 nc? Another question, can you explain ketosis to me again and when do you generally reach it?

Ketosis/lypolisis is burning fat for fuel isntead of carbs. You have to burn through your glycogen stores (you have about 3 days worth in your body) before you will start burning your fat for energy. You have to eat fat to keep this going efficiently. It is called ketosis because ketones are released in your breath and urine (what you can test for). They are a bi-product of burning fat for energy. After you have been eating carbs regularly it takes 3-5 days at 20g net carbs to burn through glycogen, then you are in ketosis as long as you are eating some good fat and protein in your diet.

BTW, it takes about 3-5 lbs of water to store a full glycogen store so that is why the first 3-5 lbs lost on induction are mostly water weight.

Right, now I remember. Thanks!

I made the adjustments for my daily carb count. I added one point for every 8 oz. of Diet Green Tea or Diet Coke that I drank....Monday= 16.30 NC, Tuesday= 14.97 NC, and Wednesday= 11.41 NC....
