May 2013

Lots of data to report. The biggest news: I had my body composition measured and I am down to 20.4 % bodyfat!!!!! That was my by-end-of-2013 goal and I reached in May! The last measurement was in November 2012 and I was 26 % bodyfat. Even cooler: I lost ~10 lb fat and gained 4 lb muscle. So I'm not necessarily changing my fatsecret numbers, but my new goal is to reach 17% bodyfat by the end of 2013, regardless of what weight that is.

Other numbers: I figured it was a good time to do body measurements, so here are those.

Waist - 26"
Bust - 30.5" under bra, 35.5" over bra
Hips - 35"
thigh - 20.5"

Sometimes it's a little difficult to convince myself that I am measuring reproducibly, so all of these figures have some error. But the point is that even if the caliper bodyfat measurements are pretty darn inaccurate and I'm actually 23% bodyfat or something, I'm still going WAY in the right direction, which is very exciting! Beyond the 17% bodyfat goal, the even more important goal at this time is to figure out how to feel energized on a daily basis. Even as I have gone strictly paleo/primal and have become stronger and everything... my energy has still been incredibly low. Some days it's difficult to focus on anything at work, and even on good days, I always feel like I should be able to do more. So energy (as it is related to sleep, stress, and diet) is the next big obstacle to overcome.

Life is going well. Just got back from camping in Big Sur, which was amazing, and we had lots of primal snacks to supplement my completely non-paleo intake of the best eggs benedict on the planet. We did a 10 mile round trip hike into the mountains, which was amazing and I am quite sore today - scared to think of how I am going to feel tomorrow.

I think that I am going to switch things up for the week, partially because Alex will be out of town, partially because I am trying to figure out my energy issues. I am going to try not really having breakfast, but having coffee in the morning ("Bulletproof" coffee, if I can get my hands on some MCT oil). Lunches this week are a nice big salad with grilled zucchini, mushrooms, and pumpkin seeds. And I am in the process of making a terrine, so that will be dinners for the week (hope I like it). So I have not 100% committed to doing this, but I may start a month of no nightshades, eggs, or dairy (in response to my low T3 numbers). I'd be kind of surprised if I had an autoimmunity issue, but it's worth a try. I plan to get to an internal medicine doctor to talk about the thyroid business.
127.0 lb Lost so far: 5.0 lb.    Still to go: 4.0 lb.    Diet followed 100%.
gaining 0.4 lb a week
