So, I'm on a two week business trip. Usually, these are my favorite mini-vacations. Don't get me wrong, I'm here on business, but I have learned to find the perks of traveling by myself. What are the perks of staying in a hotel, you may ask? You don't have to clean up after your husband, you can watch whatever you want on TV, you have an excuse of laying in bed after work and playing on the computer, and (in the past) you can eat whatever you want and no one is around to judge you. What did you say? Ice cream for dinner in bed? A few hours later, you had some cheetos? Why not?! Bring it on!
I must say that the way I eat around my mother is different than the way I eat around friends which is different than the way I eat around my husband, which is all completely different than the way I eat by myself. (follow that?)
Business trips have been the one place where I could eat whatever I wanted and no one was around to see all of the junk food I bought for the week. Since FS, I have been really worried about this trip. I have a mini-fridge in the room, but no microwave or stove to cook on. I realize that I could go out to eat, but where I'm located, there aren't that many diet-friendly options (believe me). There is a Walmart!! That is where I "shop for groceries". So far, I bought water, cheerios, skim milk, yogurt, grapes, baby carrots, low carb tortillas, lettuce, lite ranch, pretzel chips, hummus, and a 12" ham and swiss sub. In the last two days, I've finished the sub sandwich and most of the pretzel crisps and hummus. (I know I need to work on my portions and watch my carbs.)
I need to stay strong on this trip! The Lord forbid that I come back after two weeks and find that I gained some weight (especially since I don't have a scale to watch here)!!

Smart choice to shop, though! Too often its tempting to go out, order what you want, lie to yourself and say you'll only eat a little, and then totally binge.

Hi Katie - thank you for stopping by my journal and your words of encouragement. I was a road warrior for corporate america for over 25 years and I get the 'I eat different' thing really well. Most of the time I ate 'better' because my spouse is a meat & potatoes guy. It definitely worked better when I was at the corp apt able to stock up on my yogurt & fresh veggies than being stuck in a hotel room w/just a fridge. And eating out, or room service, forget it .. way too much food but then again, w/the fridge, that worked because I could take 1/2 of the meal back to the room. Good on you w/the Walmart - plenty of fresh fruits, etc. Does the hotel have breakfast? I recently stayed at one that had boiled eggs, lite yogurt, fruit (for my bag later) - definitely a step up from years ago when breakfast was donuts & coffee. Although it got really lonely being away from home every single week in and week out, yeah, it was nice not having to tidy after anyone but myself so I definitely get the allure of the 2 week trip.
