TresiaJ's Journal, 12 February 2013

I received very annoying news yesterday from my doctor. She said that due to my metabolism completely shutting down, I should not expect to loose weight very fast even if I am dieting and exercising. It is due to my thyroid. I just started taking the medication again and she said I would not see results for about 4 months. :(

I have had my thyroid removed 2 years ago and am completely reliant on medication to provide me with the thyroid hormone. I was gaining weight with just taking the medicine and my DR upped the dosage as much as possible without going over the limit. Still did not work for me. Then I read up and found Cytomel. You take it once a day, the smallet dose for me, and it provides you with energy (that I didn't have) and also keeps your metabolism performing better. It is T3 only and this helped me with many of the things that were going wrong, weight gain, tiredness, brittle nails, hair falling out, joint pain, etc. Read up on it and see if it's for you.

I'm going through the same thing. My thyroid went haywire when I was pregnant last year. Instead of hypo went direct opposite and went hyper. Then about 4 months after having my son got even worse. I lost 35 pounds in about 2 months! It was crazy. I loved the weight loss but it was also frustrating b/c of people's comments about not being healthy, what's wrong with me, you name it I heard it. Went to different thyroid specialist and he did the iodine treatment on me b/c I had such a large goiter. It basically shut my metabolism down. He put me on Levothyroxine but so far I have not been able to lose like I feel I should be with the changes I've made. It's very frustrating. I went back to have my bloodwork checked this week hoping he might be able to up the dose of the hormone and maybe that would help but of course they couldn't get a blood draw after 2 sticks so I have to go again and try before he can review and see how I'm doing. He also said it could be 3-4 months before anything changes for me because of the treatment I took. I did that in lieu of having the thyroid surgery though.
