January 1, 2013 Started the liquid diet in prepapation for my gastric surgery scheduled for Jan 29. One of the main reasons for the lquid diet is to shrink the size of the liver prior to the surgery to make it easier to work around for the surgeon. The surgery is the sleeve gastrectomy where most of the stomach is removed leaving just a thin banana shaped portion connecting the esophagus and the intestines. The portion left will only allow 4-6 oz to be digested at a meal. Spent the last 32 months preparing for the procedure attending all sorts of classes, seminars and meetings with VA doctors to make sure the surgery and my future are successful.
