worm2butterfly2012's Journal, 01 January 2013

Well, our family celebrated Christmas this evening. My niece came home from Virginia and we waited to celebrate Christmas with her. It was sure nice seeing her. My mother made the pies and I am glad to say that I had none!! I brought a fruit tray and that is what I had for dessert. I also said no to all the candy and other goodies that were laying around. It wasn't easy, but I kept thinking how hard it has been for me to lose the weight I've lost thus far and that kind of prevented me from indulging. My mother got me a shirt that is just a tad too small, but I'm kind of glad she did because I will look forward to eventually getting into it as I lose more weight. I got a lot of presents to help me cook and prepare food. One of my favorite items was a digital food scale. I'm not used to weighing my food, but I've found that some of the food in the fat secret data base is figured out in ounces. I think I will be able to be more precise in my food intake from now on. I also want to start making my own salad dressings and sauces that are lower in calories. It will be fun to start experimenting.

Way to go, wish I had your dedication. Weighing your food is much more accurate and cooking everything from scratch is always more healthy, less sodium and weird chemicals.

A happy and healthy new year to you! It sounds like you're making wonderful progress and doing great on the self-control front. Sometimes, when I want to eat something that I shouldn't, I think about how bad it'll look in my food diary and that inhibits me, either from eating it entirely or into eating much less of it. Entering my food has made a huge difference for me, as has drinking lots of water (probably about 2 quarts each day). I wasn't good about entering food for a couple of weeks in December, mainly because I was sick but also because of other reasons (difficulty with figuring out "pot luck" foods, and maybe some guilt), but I'm back on board now. If there's a Trader Joe's near you, you may want to try their fat free balsamic vinaigrette and sesame ginger vinaigrette. They're both really good and low in calories. The sesame ginger is also good as a sauce if you make spring rolls. My daughters make them with the rice wraps and veggies - just moisten the wraps, fill with shredded carrots, lettuce, herbs, etc), roll, and enjoy. Keep up the good work!

Very proud of you for skipping the pies!!! I know how very hard that is!!! Really like the bringing the fruit idea. I will remember that for future use. Happy 2013.....sounds like you are off to a successful start!
