atriel2's Journal, 14 December 2012

One day at a time, one pound at a time. I am now at the weight that I was in July when I went completely off plan due to some health issues (not diet related).

The FMiL and I talked yesterday and I think that she actually heard me when I said, "I'm gluten intolerant. This isn't a fad diet, I'm not overly restricting myself, and I am eating a ton of vegetables. This isn't just about weight loss, this is about not having joint pain and heart burn and bloating and all of the rest of the stuff that comes along with being gluten intolerant."
We'll see. We're going to her house for Christmas Eve and Christmas. I'm probably going to bring my own food. Which may or may not piss her off or hurt her feelings but, you know? I can't really find it in me to care right now.

I have to do what's right for me and I have to put my own health first. I'm tired of gaining and losing the same 20 lbs over and over again. Honestly, if I hadn't slipped and gone off plan so many times I'd be really, really close to my goal weight right now.
That's a sobering thought but - this is a lifestyle change. I am a work in progress and the progress is good.

Toni I know exactly what you mean. It was like that with my DH and I when I think he FINALLY heard me when I told him. Before then it was "too bad you are on a diet right now" or something along those lines. Your health comes first and I cannot imagine why anyone would get upset if someone that had an allergy brought their own food. I mean if you had an allergy to peanuts and stopped breathing if you had some in your food then they would be happy that you brought your own food. Just because you don't break out into hives and they cannot SEE it does not mean that it is not there. It is NOT fun to have your joints aching and feeling like you must be 80 years old...I surely know that! If she gets pissed off then that is on her and not because of anything you did intentionally. For me you are saying "hey I have this allergy and I don't expect you to cater to just me so I will help out by bringing some of my own gluten free iems". Oh gosh and I do know about the slipping. If I had not slipped so many times I would not be dealing with this now, but we live and LEARN. At least I hope my hard head learned. I think the key for me though this time around is not wanting the pain back. I would rather do without those foods and be pain free. We can do this...you are right one pound, one hour, one day at a time. You are doing so great!!! You are where you were before and are about to say good bye to it and keep trending down...that is AWESOME.
