Does chewing on healthy foods burn calories??

I actually got tired half way into my dinner tonight--eating was work!! ;) More about that later...

So, my day didn't start off as well, as one too many snooze-buttons later I woke up to realize it was 2 pm!!! OMG!! After an initial panic at the time lost, I managed to take the reins of the rest of the day in my hands, and all was not lost.

Made my to-do list, went to the farmers' market and picked up my week's supply of veggies, fruits, and bean curd. Next, went to the library and picked up my copy of "Does this clutter make my butt look fat?", and spent a nice hour in a coffee-shop reading part of this book (it's good!). Made me feel somewhat motivated. Came home and quickly loaded my fridge with my healthy purchases and went downstairs to get in a nice workout before dinner.

Did upper-body weights for 30 mins (even upgraded to 10-12 pound wghts!). Worked on biceps, shoulders, chest and triceps (man! those hurt!). Did 30 mins. of treadmill after that (only 216 K lost), and ran only twice for 2 mins. tops (ddin't have as much energy, and didn't sweat as much too..) but can up the ante tomorrow.

Came home and quickly had my protein mix (with milk and a banana) to tide me over until I prepare dinner. Then for the next two hours I slaved over the stove and made a large batch of lentil/spinach stew, a dish of green beans/walnuts/orange, and a salad.

Dinner was good, lots of variety and took only 4.5 points!! I was scrambling to get more points in, but half way into the dinner I actually got quite full and tired of all the work involved in chewing and eating!!

Oh, and started the challange today and posted my activity and goals for the mini challange.

Meals for the day:
Brunch: go lean cereal with skim milk (3), 1 wedge laughing cow cheese (1) and 1 wasa cracker (0.5) and 4-5 grapes (0.5)

Snack: 1 coffee with cream (1)
protein mix (2) with skim milk (2) and a banana (2)

Dinner:
1 bowl spinach and orange salad (with bits of tomato, green pepper, hot pepper) and reduced fat feta (1), and salad spritzer.

A side of some kidney beans (0.5) and steamed brocolli.

Green beans, walnuts and orange rind sauteed with some oil (2).

1 bowl lentil and spinach stew (minimal oil, onion, garlic, carrots, tomatoes, etc) (1)

Total points: 16.5 (should make up for the last two days' over-high points!)

Wow. You packed a lot into your shortened day! Your dinner sounds like it was yummy. Question: I realize serving sizes and such differ but are you sure your laughing cow cheese is 2 points per wedge? The one I have (same brand) is only 1 point per wedge. Just thought you might be short changing yourself on a point there!

AWESOME MENU - yum, yum, yum! I loled at your chewing is work comment. YES - high fiber is a lot of work to chew and filling too. YAY! That is the key! I think you NEEDED to sleep in, especially with all that you've packed in in the last week. SUPER workout! Wow! You are on fire! P.S. I think you forgot to count the points in your protein shake -- but you had lots to spare and your post-workout re-fueling was the secret to satisfying you long enough to cook up a delicious healthy feast! What a banner day! I am so excited!!!!!!

Thanks guys--you're awesome buddies!! Both of you've also helped me catch important errors in my counting (Massiverally, I had undercounted 6 points--having forgotten to include my protein mix!!!!). Thanks for picking these up! I hope to keep a better track to avoid slip-ups..
