I started reading Dr. Perlmutter's Grain Brain Whole Life Plan yesterday. A few years ago I began reading "Grain Brain" and once I removed grain from my diet my depression abated. As soon as I slipped up, the depression jumped back in and required 3 to 5 days to fall away again.
When I discovered this "Whole Life Plan" book I realized I needed more help. Other aspects of my life aren't going so well. I like this this book focuses on the other areas with genuine ideas (and the science to back it up) to work on. I previously believed that if I got my diet under control and the weight came off I could handle the rest of my life. Well, I didn't. Because other areas weren't going well, it was difficult to keep the diet going properly. My biggest downfall was sugar. I believe I over ate candy and sweets to compensate my unhappiness. Even though the depression was lots better and usually completely gone, there was something missing. I don't relate to people well.
