Happy Mother's Day to me and every other mom here, working at ensuring a healthier future with and setting a healthier example for her kids!

So we had a decadent dinner from Carraba's, a fabulous Italian Grille. Hubby went out and picked it up, to eat at home. So much nicer and relaxing to NOT be in a packed restaurant w/ antsy kids. :) Then the rest of the fam came over later and mom brought DESSERT! Oh my, sampler box from one of the local bakeries. I tried everything, but cut off only half of each piece for myself (they are 2' x 2") pieces of various cakes. While this is not necessarily good, it's a big improvement for me. Normally I would have eaten the whole piece of each sample. Progress, albeit small.

If my back wasn't so sore from yesterday's insane marathon hiking, pushing a 35 lb kids, I would even try to talk myself into getting on my elliptical tonight. But I can barely walk, so in the interest of being able to move enough tomorrow to get to work, I think I'm going to have to cont to take it easy today.

It's ok, I'll just get back on track tomorrow. While I'm certainly not pleased to see how many calories I took in today, it's also not nearly as petrifying as it used to be. Because now I know, that I just get back to it and pick up where I left off. One day will not destroy the awesome progress I have made. I'm learning and I like to results of my "education". :)

Happy Mothers Day Amy!

I had a weekend full of desserts and enjoyed them to the fullest and was nicely surprised that it did not cause me to gain weight. I'm also learning that now when I feel like I'm "indulging", I don't actually eat nearly as bad as I did before. One dinner of pasta or chinese would affect me way worse than having dessert 3 days in a row. I'm happy to see that i can treat myself in moderation without any ill effects (other than the sugar high and low) and get right back on track the next day. I'm really enjoying my "education" here as well. Knowledge is a powerful thing!

It's when we constantly deprive ourselves that we set ourselves up for failure. You're right, one day doesn't hurt and it can actually help in the long run. By allowing yourself to occasionally eat those more fattening foods, you are preventing a full blown binge!
