Kelli2359's Journal, 04 June 2018

I am 54 yrs old, divorced, 4 grown children (3 boys and 1 girl), 2 daughter in-laws and 3 beautiful grand-babies (all girls). Growing up I played sports so I was very active and always petite. After each of my kids was born I would work hard to lose the baby weight so never worried too much about my weight. An unhappy marriage basically was my downfall. I always thought when I get divorced this weight will drop right off. Right? Isn't that what happens? Well, not in my case. It went the other way. The only thing I could attribute it to was that I was so happy to have him gone that I enjoyed myself too much :)
I joined this site back in 2011 and did quite well tracking my food to lose weight for a trip to Italy. Once I got back from Italy I did not continue to watch what I ate nor did I exercise. So fast forward 5 years and 1 heart attack later I am not only back where I started but 30 lbs heavier. I talked about losing weight at various times but never took the plunge. This is mainly due to knowing myself and it's all or nothing. I get so into it, get obsessed about it and I wasn't ready to take that on.
Last summer my daughter got engaged and is getting married in 3 weeks. So, that was my trigger. I started this journey Feb. 5th, 2018 of this year and have lost approx. 40 lbs so far. Which is really good don't get me wrong but I was expecting more. I only have 3 more weeks until this event so I had better get my butt moving. I also realized I am an event dieter. I go crazy before an event that I want to look good at and then afterwards I stop watching what I eat and don't exercise. I told myself not this time. So, I am already thinking about the next event so I can aim to be even smaller at that one.
I heard about Keto and so I did my research on it before even starting. I was concerned about my heart health and needed to make sure this was the way to go. Doing Keto has been easier for me than the multitude of diets I have tried in the past because I can eat the fats and that is where my weakness has always been. Therefore Keto has been much easier for me to stick with than my past attempts at dieting. In fact 2 of my sons and their wives have also started the Keto WOE. It's a family affair. Super cool!
This time around it has been slower to come off than in years past and I believe it has a lot to do with my hormones (menopause). I wish someone would have told me this before I went through the change so I could have gotten my butt in gear sooner but oh well such is life. I will keep plugging away and keep my goal weight in sight.
I have had fun getting into my smaller clothes and seeing items that I forgot about. It's like going on a shopping spree without spending the money.
Anyhow, that is some of my story and hopefully I can get into this journaling thing but I am pretty private so we will see.

I relate I am 55 having heart issues and for the last six weeks I have been on a strict controlled diet. I don’t have thyroid issues. I have not lost one pound! Not one! I only splurged once! Not fair.

04 Jun 18 by member: Cmon1 Hi Cmon1, Have you lost any inches? Getting enough water intake? When I started the adventure this time I read a book called Code Red which is similar to Keto but a lot stricter. So, I set my mind to do the Code Red mixed with the stricter parts of Keto. I think that is what worked for me. For the past month I have eased up on some of the strictness and am not seeing the losses I did before. Regardless I can relate to your frustrations. In fact, I stopped weighing everyday just so I wouldn't start my day being disappointed. I moved it to once a month. Don't think that has helped any. My clothes are getting looser and that is really how I can tell if something is happening. Hang in there. Don't give up. It WILL happen and maybe when you least expect it.

Today was a beautiful day in Boise, Idaho. Just the right temperature to be outside even though I was inside sitting in the cubicle. I know sitting all day on conference calls or on the computer is not healthy and I need to get up from my desk more often. Take a walk around the site or take the long way to the restroom. If only I wouldn't wait so long to go to the restroom maybe I could do that but I would never make it in time and that would be embarrassing for all. Tomorrow morning I have the fitting for my Mother of the Bride dress that I bought. Yes, I bought a size smaller than I was at the time so am a little nervous about it. I know the seamstress will need to let some of the side seams out but it fits much better than it did. I looked all over for a dress. A unique, different, one I haven't seen before. A dress that wasn't matronly looking. I found one but the biggest size was a 12. Well, that was doable. I could lose a size and a half by the wedding. So, I bought it. Well, this dress apparently runs small so it is more like a 10. Yep, nope not going to happen within the time frame I have. So, we'll see how it goes tomorrow morning. If I would have just kept working out after my trip to Vegas in April. I went to visit my son for his Bday and it just threw me off my workout plan. Diet plan went well while I was there but the workout plan just tanked. Haven't been able to get back into it. My daughter has been trying to get me to go back to the gym with her but my mindset switched off or something. Remember that switch in my head I talked about in my earlier entry? Yep, I think it got stuck mid-way. I need to re-focus and get back into it, NOW. I also know if I would have gotten right back into it after Vegas that dress may actually have fit. I hate going to the gym but it is so satisfying when I am done. It's getting there that is a drag...... The people at work have been so supportive of my journey. I am very blessed to have such an amazing group of people to work with. Even when we plan a lunch out they will ask me if the restaurant they chose will work for my eating plan. Very thoughtful. It makes going into the office a lot easier. Well, I guess I'd better be done for the day and answer my daughter about going to the gym...UGH!

I’m 52 and female. I’m not doing keto just have decreased my calories over time as I’ve lost weight. I haven’t had a heart attack, have no health problems and don’t want any. It took several weeks before I started to see results. Good luck!
